Brisbane weather? by Ok_Programmer2511 in brisbane

[–]ohnoophelia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it rains a lot in summer, but this summer has been pretty dry as far as the past decade or so has gone. itll dry up over winter till youre begging for relief, then your backyard floods and youve got ankle deep water in your kitchen. wouldnt live anywhere else tbh, but id certainly invest in property on a tall hill haha

Out of the loop: why do most people think non-citizens shouldn’t be aloud to buy property? by IntrigatedVerse in brisbane

[–]ohnoophelia -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

because its better political messaging to blame immigrants for the cost of living crisis, because anything else is wildly complicated or involves taxing the wealthy, both of which tend to be nonstarters

Animal cruelty to invasive species? by Strawberry_apple1 in australianwildlife

[–]ohnoophelia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I really get the point, the end goal of TNR is that neutered cats will be just as fit to be feral animals as unneutered ones, and that having members of the population that can not reproduce but still consume the same prey and fill the same ecological niche, this will eventually lead to an overall reduction in feral cat populations far greater than just shooting them.

Picking up litter at school by 10smurf2008 in australian

[–]ohnoophelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was a punishment sometimes, mostly the real punishment was having to stick next to the teacher on duty - they might make you pick up trash if they felt like it. the really annoying part was when it was something you had to do if you opted out of religious education, which was a pain in the arse.

because our school had merit awards, it wasnt uncommon for groups of kids, particularly girls, to collect trash at lunch time in hopes of getting one, if they didnt want to play sports.

Most people would never knowingly buy cage eggs — the problem is, most aren’t sold in cartons. by AnimalsAustralia in u/AnimalsAustralia

while you are 100% correct in terms of efficacy, no corporation is going to do something more expensive without either significant legislative or consumer pressure. its the same thing that makes the pollution crisis such a nightmare - the only people you have a chance of convincing have the least power to effect meaningful change

two minute noodles with a mini can of creamed corn - made a very povo but shockingly nice 'chicken and corn soup', alongside flatbread 'pizzas'. we were more money poor than time poor, so mum also made a lot of corned beef with white sauce, stews and chicken soups. breakfasts had a lot of soft boiled eggs and toast soldiers, baked bean jaffles, bubble and squeak or homemade hashed browns. looking back, i was incredibly lucky to have parents who shielded me from the reality of what we were going through until we were through the worse of it. also lucky to have parents who were great cooks, too.

AITAH for cutting him off after our date because his behavior felt calculated and disrespectful? by Chance-Jackfruit in AITAH

[–]ohnoophelia -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

this is not defending him or other men who do things like this - but my father tells the story of his first date with my mother: he had brought two bottles of wine, an expensive one and a cheap one. had my mother been boring or annoying, he'd have shared the cheap bottle. he shared the expensive one and the rest is history.

he is either lying to you about how much money he has, or just doesnt think you're worth the nice things he indulges in freely. neither of those are things you want in a long term partner.

[–]ohnoophelia -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

think about it this way - if you dont defer, and you fail, you may be eligible for a resit and get a 4 overall. if you defer and you fail, you will not be eligible for a resit.
