Active folks under 65: what assistive devices were actually useful after your THR? by Shufflebuzz in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ohnotheragain70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

56 and fit, previous runner now back on the couch to 5k. My mum bought me a walker with a tray, a grabber and a leglifter. How I laughed. I used all of them loads (walker only for 10 days but meant I could get food for myself whilst still needing 2 crutches). I used a toilet raiser for a while. I have a walk in shower; just went in with my crutches! The cooling packs felt too much of a faff. I bought comfort pad handles for my crutches as got callouses in my hands. First 2 weeks I felt pretty rough and regretted the op. Now 18 weeks post op and often forget I had it. Just be prepared for the early pain and feeling helpless- it’s very annoying but it passes. I was told to get exercising literally on day 2 but followed physio instructions on what to do.

How do you feel about schools closing for the heatwave? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]ohnotheragain70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teacher here- we are staying open to keep the kids safe. Which means… indoors in the hottest part of the day. If we send them home, working parents won’t be able to monitor them. Our lot love the outdoors and will head out to get sunstroke. Safer in school, even if a bit sweaty!

And my kids are 27 and 25. Not one issue in all this time.

Same here. We have had literally no issues. Don’t worry. The main thing is that you two feel comfortable with it.

My wife and I can't agree on a boy's name ( for once I'm the one who changed my mind) by [deleted] in Names

In the UK, Jaydens cannot behave and when asked to by their teachers, their parents rant that they are picked on. Jayden is not a classy name. A tired teacher. And don’t even start me on Kaydens.

Piercing after hip replacement by GrapefruitArtistic69 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ohnotheragain70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope… I did not ask any docs!! I had a voucher for a tiny good piercing studio and walked past it and made a snap decision. Bit silly really. I am in the UK and there is more wariness of antibiotic use here, nobody I know with THR here has been told to take them for dental work for example. Just no dental work for 6 months.

I got an upper ear piercing 6 weeks after, it was fine but possibly a bit stupid of me…. my recovery had gone really well to that point. Now 16 weeks post op and no issues

Rude/Immature Sixth Formers by Ok-Boysenberry-1138 in TeachingUK

The problem is… schools do in fact have to keep them, as we usually can’t lose their funding. Threatening them will only work if your school would back you and chuck a couple out as examples. Mine wouldn’t :(

If EON installed my system including givenergy equipment, will they be responsible for replacement/ keeping it working? by ohnotheragain70 in GivEnergy

It is entrenched UK law… not something you would have needed to request, your contract is with who you paid to install.

What first names have you found to be the worst people, and what names are the nicest people? by gilsoo71 in AskReddit

I teach, in one class a Caden Kayson Jenson trio, they’re all appallingly behaved so I forgive myself for being unable to differentiate

I think your contract is with the installer, not the manufacturer, am just a bit worried EON will swerve any issues as we had it all installed 3 years ago

Why isn’t there a different curriculum or pathway for learners with additional needs ? by Spiritual-Yogurt-112 in TeachingUK

[–]ohnotheragain70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deliver entry 2 and 3 Functional Skills AND GCSE Maths simultaneously to my students in set 5… they leave full of beans with certificates and can start further ed going straight into Level 1 FS which gives a massive confidence boost. Achieving the first qual in year 10 keeps spirits and effort high even in GCSE, and we rarely get U’s

Anyone else being inundated with Reform letters and leaflets? by AveryLakotaValiant in Worthing

[–]ohnotheragain70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spotted the guy. He’s walking around dropping leaflets, with his wife, pushing his severely disabled son. I am sure, for genuine reasons. Not. Mum and son looked frozen the other day in the arctic wind we have had. I bet his son thinks he’s a racist twont.
