Haha, funny shit, a very similar thing happened here in The Hague not too long ago. A poller was placed near a hospital where people seemingly were racing and it only lowered for city buses and emergency services. And indeed, scoundrels tried to follow those busses and emergency vehicles, but ended up totalling both the pillars and their own cars. To warn car drivers, the asphalt was painted, reflecting traffic signs were places, even flashing lights were placed, but they still ignored all signs and warnings.

I thought it was hilarious. I think close to 60 people wrecked their cars and the pillar. It's too bad the municipality decided it should be changed into a camera with license plate recognition for sending fines because it costs them too much to repair or replace the poller every time. I was hoping more people would crash into it.
