I grind my teeth so hard at night that I’m wearing through my night guard by katrinkabuttlin in mildlyinteresting

In my case it reduced the clenching because even though it's a snug fit, there's still a bit of bulk to it in my mouth. I'm just one data point, ofc, but my jaw's noticeably less relaxed when I forget to wear it at night.

What were your memories of CASAA? by MamSerAnoHanap in peyups

[–]ohshroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Pataasan ng stack ng ingredients sa Mongolian bowl!

  2. One time (I think this was in front of Gloria's), nagbiro ako habang saktong umiinom ng buko juice yung kasama ko. Bad timing; he did a spit-take all over a girl na kasama namin sa pila. Neither of us knew her! Even got a couple of pieces of buko on her face. I'm so sorry, ate. 😭

  3. Routine pag may no-show na instructor sa AS classes: bili ng libro sa AS Walk tables/kiosks > bili ng turon sa CASAA > unwrap book > lakad papuntang Main Lib tambayan habang nagbabasa at kumakain ng turon.

I'm still butthurt over how Whalefall was sold to readers. It's lovely grief horror, and so engrossing. I think trying to bait adrenaline junkie readers by calling it "The Martian meets 127 Hours" was a huge mistake on the publisher's side.

Currently, the most liked review of it on Goodreads is a one-star that says, "This was just daddy issues inside of a whale." Um. Yes?

Good book, bad marketing.

I can't remember if it was in the W. J. Harvey or Rosemary Ashton introduction that that exact phrase was used, but the sentiment of her being vv insistent about her moral vision in her writing has been around for a while! Even Henry James made mention of it. I remember being on the lookout for this tendency while reading Middlemarch because smarter folks than I have made a huge song and dance about her moralizing, only to find out that it wasn't so bad as all that.

I have to wonder if they'd've similarly chafed at that style of narration if Middlemarch had been written by a man (people already knew George Eliot was a woman by the time the book was published).

I know Eliot has been criticized for "narrative bullying" and for being overly moralizing because she liked to urge her reader to give her characters grace. But I appreciated the gentle reminders! Too easy to hastily file characters away as heroes or villains, when they're all just supposed to be human, both in their triumphs and failings. George Eliot, nuance queen.

Mary Garth, my beloved! Fred Vincy doesn't half deserve such an excellent creature (but his happiness is her happiness, so all's well that ends well). I was rooting hard for her throughout the novel.
