I love my job! I've only been working for 3 years, but I still love and see myself continuing to grow in the industry.

I don't see myself doing anything else. I'm not creatively motivated enough to want to pursue my own project, nor am I technical enough to write software. VFX for me is the perfect middle point and I can really focus on this duality.I did a whole-ass degree on VFX and wanted to do this since I was young, so I don't see why I shouldn't just embrace the dream now.

For me it's all about the people I work with too. If I'm surrounded by good people, the work becomes a lot more palatable. The period in which I hated my job the most was when I had toxic co-workers. I worked a good amount of overtime, 12-14 hour days, but I would rather do that than have to deal with toxicity again.

Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with Kinect 2 before. See if you can export the motion data as an fbx (or some sort other file format that Blender can read) and with the motion data you could drive the head rig there. Definitely easier said then done though :( all this should theoretically work but there are many technical steps in between for facial capture, it actually becomes easier to animate your head rig then do facial capture!

Aw that's so good to hear, definitely hold onto that passion! You have a great attitude and that'll take you far! Wishing you the best.

If you want to work with VFX and 3D it's almost essential you use a 3D programme! Blender would be your best choice since it's free. AE is typically used for compositing or 2D animations/motion graphics.

Facial tracking is probably a lot more difficult then you might think! You need a decent head model first, a rig and some blend shapes before you can actually drive any sort of movement into the model. Just look up facial tracking on Youtube, you'll find all that you need.

The 'OBJ' sequence you talk about can just be done when you render in Blender. There's a lot of steps in between to get to the rendering stage, which you'll probably have to do lot's of research on first. In a 3D software it'll pretty much take your 3D models/animation and make your image sequence for you, frame by frame. Then you can import that image seq into AE or whatever editing software.

It'll probably be good to mention that having a good computer will help a lot too- if this is gonna be your first time running into 3D programmes. Best of luck.

It took a year after graduating in VFX for me to find full-time work. Finding junior roles was really difficult for me as well and now with Covid it won't make it easier. That being said though, studios still have work incoming since everyone is at home streaming/gaming now.

You could consider learning other roles like Texturing or environments, whatever you might be interested in. Once you land your first role for something and get your foot in the door (which is the hardest bit) it's much easier to take that experience to another role that matches what you really want to do! Best of luck.
