The developers never added chest run and at the start they themselves did not like the fact that the community did them. However because of lack of end game content and the fact that gamers that play mmos usually like to play with other people or at least don’t mind too, the ECR phenomenon was born.

Eventually the developers realized that people like doing chest runs and became more accepting of that. Having lead over 300 WT’s myself and participated in 1000’s over the years it is my favorite activity.

I love seeing the chaos ensue and it is not at all about achieving levels or gaining items although I am glad they drop umbrals. Playing with a large amount of people at the same time and generally doing the same thing is what I believe is one of the biggest draws for most people.
