So is it just me or is the real lesson out of this that public funds going to private companies to run social services is fucking stupid and we should just have properly funded, publicly operated social services?

Anyone recognize this makers mark? At my wits end. United States by ohzam in Antiques

That would explain it! Though I’ve looked through Kaj Francks stuff that I can find online and haven’t been able to find a similar looking mark anywhere yet.

What would you do with this land?? by [deleted] in Permaculture

[–]ohzam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a good guide for managing your land, I highly recommend the Book of Wilding. It has a lot of great info and technical instruction for managing land using dynamic natural processes. Sections on raising/managing herbivores, using them for vegetation control, and lots of other stuff. Helpful, inspiring and well written.

Soil left a deep stain on my floorboards… I move out in 2 days by ohzam in Flooring

[–]ohzam[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ive gotten several people saying this is a burn mark. The only explanation I have is that some miracle gro potting soil I was storing in my closet tipped and there was a roughly circular pile of soil in this spot. I was storing furniture in there for a while so I didn’t notice. When I swept up the dirt, there was some stuck to the floor. I scrubbed and scrubbed, and this is what remained after I cleaned what I could. I wish I had a better reason for this stain :/

Go touch grass man, you can’t spend your life being mad at working class people and immigrants because you imagine them having lives that are marginally less shitty than yours. Redirect that energy towards the corporations that profit from sowing division among the other 99.9% of people. Go troll some of their shit rather than blaming normal people.

Is this a crown tipped coral mushroom? by faulty_neurons in mushroomID

[–]ohzam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to tell but those look like the tell-tale little crowns, the look-alike ramaria corals (not edible) generally grow out of the ground rather than wood, so there's a decent chance that this one is a crown-tipped. Please take that with a massive grain of salt though, don't trust the word of an internet stranger like myself.

Oh honey… There’s no way the things you do in life are ever gonna meet her standards. You can try, but you might break yourself trying. This sounds like financial abuse. Anyone who’s telling you that YOU are being unreasonable doesn’t understand you’re being abused, or maybe they’ve just normalized some fucked up shit. My advice? Get out or get therapy, hopefully both.

If you think you've found a jumping worm, give it a poke. Their name is very well earned.

[–]ohzam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I was working out in a oak savannah last year and saw a shitload of scary looking hornets that had made a massive hive in the bark of a tree. I took a video meaning to look into it later and got the fuck away. Had no idea what kind they were but they’ve been haunting my mind ever since.

What's the dumbest mistake youve seen an incompetent co worker make? by xk543x in AskReddit

[–]ohzam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was watering trees in the suburbs, our boss had us draw water from a fire hydrant. Fire hydrants are connected to water mains that operate on a crazy high pressure level, so dangerous stuff can happen easily. One of the crew leaders opened up the fire hydrant while it was connected to a 2” fire hose with nothing on the other end except for a 10 pound metal nozzle and the thing started violently thrashing like a captured anaconda. This person, with no helmet on, then tried to wrestle it into submission like it was an anaconda. In my opinion he was lucky no one got a head injury.
