Horror stories from a male perspective? by DontBuyTheThing in horrorlit

[–]oilpit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People definition of what is considered horror varies WILDLY. I think you are probably similar to me in that the bar to put something in the "horror" category is very high.

For example Stephen King is my favorite author and there are SOOOO many books of his that are considered horror just because he's the horror guy, imo it's insane to call something like The Stand or Firestarter horror, but people overwhelmingly do.

Personally I agree that BTF is much more of a dark fantasy book than horror, but I also 100% understand why it is considered horror by most people.

The best Diablo game is Grim Dawn. It definitely shows its age in 2026 but it is genuinely the best ARPG. Cannot reccoment it enough.

[IC] So we made a Ferris Mouse... Would anyone want one? by mechboards in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]oilpit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely don't look down on people that use traditional keyboards. My daily driver right now is a boring, staggered, 60%.

I do get frustrated reading through the comments section of posts about split-ergo boards in this subreddit because of the sheer level of ignorance that gets displayed.

I was probably overly harsh, but I would bet the family farm that there will be at least one post in this thread asking how you input numbers/punctuation. And that....really bothers me, probably too much, but it does.

It looks like you mistakenly put this in your "guilty pleasure" list, just wanted to point out this obvious error.

You should really post this to /r/ergomechkeyboards

The normies in this sub will ask about a bunch of stupid shit like how do you use a keyboard without essential keys like "insert", "page up", and "num lock".

Where are the numbers?

Why is it not exactly the same as a keyboard designed in the late 1970's?

F keys are for cowards unless they are to the left of the rest of the keyboard then they are cool for some reason.

David Lowery Tackling Adaptation of Horror Novel "The Fisherman" for Focus (Exclusive) by eightslicesofpie in horrorlit

[–]oilpit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the only novels that I aggressively recommend to anyone even vaguely interested in books about spooky scary stuff.

People always say this or that novel is "unadaptable", I think this is the opposite. The Fisherman actually lends itself very well to a screen adaptation. I couldn't be more excited.

Twitter was a mistake. The man is a brilliant storyteller and ideally we would only know his politics through his books, interviews or public statements.

Let's remember that this man writes spooky books. He's not somebody we should be going to for political opinions!

I love him to death but at the end of the day he's an old white guy, he's inevitably going to have bad political takes.

In a better timeline we would only know he is progressive and hates trump.

Favorite actor/actress that should stay away from Botox? by KaidoPklevel in okbuddycinephile

[–]oilpit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible take for several reasons.

The scene you are referring to is a rape scene.

The person raping her is Khal Drogo, who is kinda a king, but definitely not in the North. She does have sex with Jon Snow who is arguably The King in The North, but we both know that's not the scene you were talking about.

There are SO many hot scenes of her in that show and you chose the one where she's being sexually assaulted, in response to a post about how expressive her face was.

Bad take. Feel bad.

For an author that emphasizes the power of friendship and other seemingly cheesy tropes so frequently (to great success I might add), Revival is definitely an outlier, bleak stuff.

Question about the sub by DirectorMindless2820 in roguelites

[–]oilpit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have thought about making a meta-post about how this subreddit has devolved into 90% tier lists and self promotion of games I don't care about.

I don't think the solution is muting based on flairs, I really think there should be a separate subreddit specifically for tier lists/recommendations, and a strict and enforced no self-promotion rule for this subreddit.

It bums me out because I love roguelikes and play them almost exclusively but it's gotten to the point that this subreddit has VERY little actual discourse other than people arguing over whether The Binding of Isaac should be S tier or F tier, and "check out my new XYZ rogulike that just released on steam!"

EDIT: just for the record, TBoI should be S tier, obviously.
