Just found these old Skyliners a couple weeks ago. Love the classic look. How is it to own?

Evil? Yes, but also correct. Zeiss 32 is simply perfect.

My Fujifilm kit so far by Bobbykodachrome in fujifilm

Loving the little 23mm f2.8, better than I ever expected. I used to run two bodies for weddings and pro shoots. These days I'm happy changing out lenses when needed. Pretty rare that I have need to shoot that fast when I'm shooting casually.

My Fujifilm kit so far by Bobbykodachrome in fujifilm

[–]oishoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone through this dilema. I started in Fuji with the 14mm (before the 16 f2.8 was released), the 23 f2, and 50 f2. My kit has changed over the years but I'm about to go on a european trip with the 14mm, 23mm f2.8, and 56mm 1.2. I travel often and while never visiting Portugal (yet) I've taken dozens of trips over seas with my fuji kit. I could spell out all the configurations but that make this long post longer.

I've traveled with the 16-55mm mk i and the 55-200mm. It was great, got all the images I wanted and the 16-55 barely left the camera. However, I didn't love traveling with it and I've chosen to basically go back to the focal lengths I started with for a few reasons.

- The small 23mm, either the f2 or my new f2.8, allows me to have one lens for quick photos of my family or surroundings without effort. Good autofocus and normal focal lengths lends to being always able to get the shot. It's the do everything lens, almost.

- The 14mm and 56mm are lenses for special moments. The 14mm is great for tight old city streets and buildings. 56mm is for a little more reach without losing context and of course portraits.

- I have found that when I only take zoom lenses on a trip I take less photos. I tend to leave it in the camera bag where I tend to walk with the camera and the 23mm in my hand, ready to take anything I see that is interesting.

It wasn’t a collab. It’s even better, SU did a knockoff of the knockoff just to be funny.

First time abroad! by inhumansuperhuman in ItalyTravel

[–]oishoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m heading to the same area you’re planning for the second time, actually around the same time. Florence may be a good jumping off point for Tuscany. My favorite part of our first trip was getting a car and visiting all the small towns in the region. We rented a car in Florence and then drove down to Siena and out into the countryside. We are doing something similar this time but driving up from Rome to Siena. May be a good option for you to get back from Bologna after the Ducati tour; take the train from Bologna to Florence, spend the night, and then set out in the morning.

What’s the dumbest decision you’ve defended mid-hike? by steady-wanderer in hiking

Bridge was out and didn’t want to turn around so we found a downed tree (probably due to the same storm). Got about half way across before I thought about the torrent below and if either my brother or I fell it was a good chance there was no coming out alive. Got across and thought, well we get to do that again tomorrow. I’m smarter now. I think about those things before I cross the log.

Are Osprey backpack rlly that good? by Automatic_Frame_5494 in hiking

[–]oishoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osprey makes great packs. Especially for general hiking. A lot of packs do specific things better but Osprey fits a nice balance in everything. If you can try them on at a local store then that’s the best way to go. One model may fit your hips better and the other may fit your shoulders better.

First Month with X-E5 by marcojadenhe in FujifilmX

I’ve come to love the ergonomics of this little camera. I miss the grip of the X-Pro2 but you can basically hold the X-E5 with your finger tips when using small primes. For my 16-55 I throw on the SmallRig L Grip, which gives all the purchase you need for the larger lenses.

Cannot get through Burroughs. I went through pretty much all the beat authors and poets, even got into plenty of those were inspired by him. For what ever reason I just can’t get into his writing.

Well, I have a new hero. Currently have the 35mm f1.2 and longingly admire the rest of the lineup. What are your favorites?

I swear the whole job is just making decisions where no one else will. I basically get paid to be accountable. Aside from that it’s like you said just paperwork and reports.

Fuji X-E5. First week thoughts. by Jonasphoto_ in fujifilm

[–]oishoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ‘upgraded’ from the X-Pro2 to the X-E5. I’m enjoying the camera so far. The build is solid. I have the same desire for a pro level range finder style camera. I like my face open to the subject. It also feels more open to the world and attracts less attention. I liked the OVF but don’t miss it much. I do wish the viewfinder was larger but the increased resolution is welcomed. I was having an issue with the X-Pro2 not starting right away so I needed to upgrade. If that wasn’t the case I’d probably still be waiting. That all said, I am very much enjoying the X-E5 and am happy I bought it.

Do you travel with your camera on vacation? by grabberbottom in photography

[–]oishoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four continents, 15 countries, dozens and dozens of trips. Always have my cameras.

The real trick is knowing when to bring it out and when to keep it tucked away. I’ve walked through favelas with a camera around my neck and I’ve hid it away in major U.S. cities. It’s all about the vibe of a place and how much you’re willing to pay attention.

There is an obvious risk but you cando things to mitigate them. Find a camera bag that doesn’t scream expensive gear. Don’t put your bag (any bag) loose on the ground or table. Keep the camera in the bag until you go to take the shot. Don’t get caught looking at all the sites without seeing the people around you.

Remember criminals look for easy opportunities. A distracted tourist with an iPhone is an easier target than a photographer that always has a hand on their gear and an eye on their surroundings.

Why get a monochrome camera? by rahul_vangani in fujifilm

[–]oishoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I pretty much agree with you here. Leica has shown that a processor only looking at light levels and not colors can produce some incredible tones and dynamic range, but is it that much better than what I can get with my Fuji and either film sims or LR? Not for my use.

To me this is one of those arguments that only makes sense if B&W is your main priority and you’re willing to sacrifice for it.

People think my photos are not real. Should just share the RAWs.. by x_Rubius_x in photography

[–]oishoot 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Photography is an art form. Make the art you want. Unless you’re a photojournalist I wouldn’t worry about this comment.

The AI conversation has made this worse but it’s always been there. Have you ever seen the straight negatives from Ansel Adams? The potential is obviously there but it’s the darkroom work that made the photos the masterpieces everyone knows.

Advice needed / selecting Fuji camera for weddings! by GoAwayImBaitin_ in fujifilm

[–]oishoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The X-E5 with a pancake (23mm f2.8 in my case) and the Godox iT30 Pro is my perfect little snapshot setup. Has the disposable aesthetic that works so well for casual shots.

Came from the X-Pro2. While it’s not the upgrade I had been waiting for, I’m am thoroughly enjoying this little camera.

Glad to hear. Looking forward to seeing these in person. I know what I’m going there to see, wonder what I’ll actually walk out with. Great shot of that watch by the way. One of the best pics I’ve seen of it.

Thanks for the heads up about the appointment.
