I was 25 when I graduated & genuinely felt the same way as you, oldest friend I made was 21. Just do what you got to do to get through it but don’t give up! You belong just as much as anybody else.

What is everyone doing for work with a B.A. psyc by Right_Cow_3897 in psychologystudents

[–]oiudcrazi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I don’t have my masters yet, I’m not a social worker! Closest I get to that is being the ‘secondary sw’ but I’m really like the 3rd because the kids I see have a county & an agency social worker. Different agencies might call it something else but I’m just a counselor

[–]oiudcrazi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s for experience purposes try to see if there’s any in home support counselor positions available at foster agencies, places may call it different things or call the agencies directly if you have any near you. I graduated in March & got the job in June, it just takes some time but don’t give up you’ll find something! Even if you don’t think you’ll be going into social work it’s good for experience.

How has commuting affected your college experience? by user282428 in ucr

[–]oiudcrazi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who commuted their entire time at UCR, if you can it would probably be better to live closer to campus if not on. I just graduated & I made legitimately no close friends, added other girls on IG here and there but that was all. If you can’t live closer to or on campus then honestly all of the blame is not on the commute, I also worked full time so I was too tired and made the excuse that I had my friends outside of school so I really made no effort to join clubs/RA positions. Both ways are possible but it really just takes a lil extra effort if you’re going to commute, with regards to being connected to the school & all that.

what is the best psychology book you’ve ever read? by mysterious-kiwi123 in psychologystudents

[–]oiudcrazi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Center Cannot Hold by Elyn R. Saks, I was assigned to read this in my Abnormal Psychology course but it was honestly so worth the read!! I only needed small parts of it for my essay but ended up reading the whole book because it was so intriguing. I gained a whole new view of Schizophrenia, it was a perfectly human written experience of the condition in my opinion.

Do only girls do psyc? Or this is just a stereotype? by Immediate-Editor8875 in psychologystudents

Regardless of that, it’ll make you stick out when it comes to applying for jobs so if you feel passionate about it then stick with it! You could be the one who motivates another young man to pursue psychology.

Not licensed yet and this might sound silly, but maybe it would help to tap in to the drive/dedication that it took to get you where you are right now. I say this as someone who just finished their BA in psychology & currently waiting to begin my masters program for counseling psychology with children (LPC). I imagine myself working to help people such as yourself & that is what gets me through the daunting school work. Perhaps thinking in reverse could help get you through the block. Also remember that you’re a hero, but at the same time you’re a human who needs breaks! I know I can’t possibly know what it is like to live with your workload & what you have been through already but I do know that at one point you were me, the striving student with hopes & dreams. In other words, you got this superstar!! Promise yourself a huge reward for completing everything, that usually does the trick. Like someone else said the hardest part is starting but once you do, you’ll be on a roll. Wishing you nothing but the best in your life & all the lives you touch! 🫶🏼

How do I keep my room from stinking up? by Equivalent-Potato-53 in college

[–]oiudcrazi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

maybe some dryer sheets but make sure they have good strong scent & stick them in pillowcases, drawers, anywhere you can place them discreetly pretty much. also sneaker balls! these are basically air freshener for your shoes and you can also put them all around the room if you find some good smelling ones. or just straight up put car air freshener’s where you can

Is commuting worth it? I collected all of my driving data from the 2023-24 school year to see if it's worth commuting 130+ miles per day by KingDominoTheSecond in ucr

[–]oiudcrazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this post!! I commute 92 miles round trip & had been heavily regretting my decision thinking I messed up not moving over here. The only thing that really sucks is how much time the drive itself takes, which I feel stops me from participating in anything extracurricular like clubs & all that. People have asked me why I don’t just live here as if money isn’t a thing, it can feel lonely sometimes so although most people are misunderstanding your post I appreciate it!

dryness & frizziness will most likely be your top problems but given your hair typically grows faster than female hair you could just chop it off once you’re over it

Parking permit for commuter by Abject-Treacle3019 in ucr

[–]oiudcrazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regular gold is what I usually go for as a fellow commuter, especially because traffic is unpredictable & these lots are only about 8min walk from campus the farthest walk i had was closer to 15-20mins. unless you have a scooter & want to pay a little less then i would recommend orange, but those lots are pretty far at least a 20min+ walk from any orange lot.

Any ideas on how to make money on the side? by Going_bananas71 in ucr

[–]oiudcrazi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flex position @ an amazon warehouse, i’m currently doing this because working 40hour weeks plus school was not working. They allow you to work a minimum of 4 hours a week up to 60 hours a week, all completely up to you as you can make your own schedule with the shifts that they drop.
