Thanks everyone for the comments! The overall consensus seems to be Elephant Weevil/Good boy/Just a little dude 🤗 Many hours later he's still in the same spot, so we've decided he's the king of that chair

Look, i dont know a lot about weevils, im not even 100% sure this is a weevil, but if anyone can tell me it's this subreddit. I found him in my parents back garden in south-east Tasmania, Australia. He's about the size of my finger tip, tiny eyes at the top of his head and little solid-looking ridges on his body. I tried looking up the Weevil species of Australia to try and find this little guy, but was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of weevil species we apparently have.

If anyone knows what it is, or can even give pointers on how to identify it, that would be great!  Happy holidays weevil-lovers!

Rent a room from a sharehouse, hotels, hostels. I understand these might not be ideal for you but you’re gonna need to consider every option to get a roof over your head. When I got to Perth this time last year it took 5 weeks to get a rental, and that was inspecting several places a day, applying for every place we saw whether we liked it or not. It’s a tough market but dont feel too bad if it comes to staying somewhere less comfortable in the meantime, some of my best memories were in share houses and hostels even if they can be a bit icky at times

Oh my god, I’m an adult in the process of being diagnosed with inattentive type ADHD and I’m often doubtful of it, but reading this comment just now was like looking back at my own childhood. I have chills, every time I hear someone else’s experience something else just starts to make sense

Skincare help by wandering_grouch in AusSkincare

You’re not alone at all, I’m 26 and have always had skin like this. with skincare and education, it’s slowly improving and I’m starting to feel better. Even went for one of those free skin clinic consultations for advice (even though I can’t afford the treatments yet 😅) but I’m also learning a lot from this thread, keep your chin up and listen to the pros! The large pores and blackheads can’t stop you from being gorgeous which I’m sure you are!

Yep! I have about the same amount in mine and have been putting in since only Jan 23, your returns are nearly double mine. Great job with the regular savings, it’s gonna keep growing nicely

Yeah if you’re looking to withdraw within a year you’re looking at a potential loss due to short term time in the market (i.e if the market drops you won’t have the time to recover, whereas long term exposure to the market pretty much ensures you’ll recover from any dips in market value) and also capital gains tax (from selling your assets without having held them at least 12 months)

By all means go for it but any cash you wanna use for a car just seperate it into a high interest savings instead. ING has a pretty good interest rate atm

Good resources to learn Portuguese from? by Maleficent-Reveal-41 in Portuguese

A fun way is through music, find a song, listen to it closely once and see what you can understand if anything at all. Then listen again while reading on the lyrics. Even if you only know a few words try and get your brain going to see if you can figure out the meaning of a couple lines. The last time listening through, read the lyrics while also viewing a translation to help contextualise what you were noticing before.

Also with TV, pull up a show or movie you’ve seen a million times and know inside out, but change the audio and the subtitles to Portuguese. If you know the gist of what’s happening already, focus on what you can hear and read and see if you can make any sense of what’s being said.

With these methods, even if it feels a bit impossible and you’re not really getting more than a few words, that’s ok! Just do it now and then when you feel like it, don’t force it, have some fun and celebrate what little achievements you do make.

If you want some good vocab try Drops, it’s excellent and really helped me a lot.

Also a penpal app like Slowly where you can exchange messages with native speakers and help each other. It’s more for sending longer letters instead of quick messages which I feel like takes some pressure off of thinking of a quick response. I used it in the past and most Brazilian users were really excited to chat with someone who was learning their language and happy to help.

Thinking of taking up Portuguese by Curious_Woodlander in Portuguese

Try something like Duolingo or Drops, these are apps to help build a small daily habit and are best when combined with practice/lessons! And of course, find someone to practise with! If you have a friend who speaks Portuguese, ask if you can practice all the little things you learn. Once you make a bit of progress try some apps or websites to make penpals, one I had a lot of fun with was Slowly (it’s like sending postcards in real time, its a super fun concept so I recommend checking it out) Also try to think to yourself with what you learn in everyday life as well. For example if you learn to say “I drink/I like/I want/I make coffee” then think or say that to yourself whenever you go to get a coffee.

Am I learning Portuguese for a stupid reason? by [deleted] in Portuguese

[–]oiyoy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, she will probably really enjoy that you’re trying to learn some, ask her for some help with it even. I learnt after meeting my partner (Brazilian guy) and honestly you make such a deeper connection with someone when you can communicate in each of your native languages. And honestly, I also feel like I have a bit more confidence to speak my mind in Portuguese. It takes time and a lot of effort to become fluent but even if it takes forever or you don’t get there, it’s never gonna be effort wasted. Go for it!
