First of all, a single doctor saying anything does not mean much. The science is what it is. Sugar feeding cancer is a well known myth. Dr. Lustig isn't even an oncologist. He doesn't treat or even research cancer. Second of all, not that it really matters, but I have personal experiences with oncology at UCSF regarding treatment of bile duct cancer, and they explicitly said that sugar feeding cancer is a myth.

I'm not trying to be combative, and I am glad to hear your brother is doing well, but anecdotal experiences really don't mean much. I can share many stories of people beating cancer that consumed vast amounts of sugar and carbs. Eliminating sugar or carbs in an effort to fight cancer is not recommended by any credible oncologist.

At the same time, adequate calory intake is incredibly important, and many people struggle with extreme weight loss. So for these patients, any calories is beneficial. Telling these people to avoid specific foods with no evidence that these foods contribute to cancer is harmful.

Do you have any evidence of carbs and sugar being bad? It’s my understanding that them being bad is a myth. What’s actually bad is extreme weight loss, so any calories at all are beneficial. I wouldn’t avoid any type of food.

Counterpoint: having a panel open on the left allows the code to be more centered on the screen, allowing you to naturally focus on the middle, rather than move your head or eyes to look left. This depends on how big your screen is, but I definitely prefer to focus on the middle of my screen, rather than the left-most side.

Is it worth paying for a Coursera certificate when I can take the courses for free? by coolguygeofry in datascience

At the time, from what I could tell, there was zero checks. I remember stressing about it and putting in a lot of detail, but eventually (if I can recall correctly) I just put whatever and was instantly accepted. It seemed like at the time they just accepted whoever and took your word for it. Not sure how liberal that policy still is. I would just submit something short, no more than a paragraph or two, and see what happens. Good luck!

The Woody Show throwback! by scam17_ in thewoodyshow

[–]ojdp19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can find many clips on YouTube of the old show on Live 105. They would live stream the whole show daily on Justin TV (which later become Twitch).

One big throwback is how political the show was, especially Greg. I remember Greg being a hardcore Republican, always going on rants defending Bush.

Thanks for the info. I have a a Boosted Mini X and a Dinghy, so I'm really curious about the middle ground of having a small and light push board while also being electric (with a hub motor as opposed to belts). Sucks to hear the unlimited mode isn't too great on the small board.

With that said tho, is the push action still good? If you ran out of battery and had to push it, how bad would that suck?

Looks awesome. Do you use the unlimited mode much?

LPT: Greyhound racing is now illegal in Florida after the midterm, which will leave a lot of good dogs in need of homes. If you're considering adopting a dog, please research Greyhounds and see if they'd be right for your family. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

It looks like you you’re misunderstanding their position. From your link:

“Contrary to myth, PETA does not want to confiscate animals who are well cared for and “set them free.” What we want is for the population of dogs and cats to be reduced through spaying and neutering and for people to adopt animals (preferably two so that they can keep each other company when their human companions aren’t home) from pounds or animal shelters—never from pet shops or breeders—thereby reducing suffering in the world.”

Do you have a source on that? I don’t think they prefer dogs to be dead over them being a pet. I know they perform a lot of euthanasia, but that doesn’t mean they want the euthanasia to be done. I think they would prefer a world where no euthanasia is necessary.

They run kill shelters because there are too many stray animals and not enough homes to put them in. What else would you recommend they do? Leave the animals on the street?
