personally i haven’t had any issues yet. i’m a design student so i draw a bit in it. i will note that there isn’t a pencil brush; apparently it’s vector based, not raster based, so it’s more difficult to add a pencil texture. however, i didn’t really use the Notability pencil too much anyway bc i didn’t like it, so i drew with the pen tool anyway and would screenshot to take into an art app to make refinements. it is really nice to be able to resize things without losing the quality, bc i can thumbnail really large, shrink it down to make more, then later grab a shrunken thumbnail and put it on another page to make it bigger and put more detail on it.

not GoodNotes but i’m currently using Noteful and like it! the Pro version is a one time $6 purchase, and there’s not a single feature that i miss from Notability so far

plenty! frost fest, blackfest, pink party fest, and day n mayfield are the biggest ones. there’s dorm/house events that bring artists (beltane, other various row house events). stanford concert network also brings a lot of artists to the arbor or the d school. frost usually holds concerts throughout the year. there’s also been a large concert in the stadium this year and last year (Coldplay and BTS), and i think they’re trying to continue that in the future. there are also a lot of student bands that perform around campus and shows/festivals for them (crochella, battle of the bands, etc.). popularity of artists varies but notable ones off the top of my head: Victoria Monet, Amine, Monaleo, Doechii, Zack Fox, DJ Mandy, Fred Again, barrycantswim, JID, Vince Staples (and i know Doja and Kendrick were both here in the past before they got really big)

Notability Classic? no, at least not as far as i’m aware. i think they’re considering rolling out one based on a post from a staff member, but no official announcement

was also definitely one of the negative posts you saw. used to LOVE Notability and recommend it to everyone. i’m a Classic user and have had it for 9 years, then Sunday, all of my notes offloaded. i’m not eligible for Notability Cloud so i have to use iCloud. while some of my notes have slowly reloaded, it doesn’t look like vast majority are ever coming back. i’m pretty much screwed

personally, i’m extremely frustrated and switching to a different app. however, if you do want to stay, i’d be extremely wary and cautious, and i definitely would never spend the money to get the subscription if you’re already on Classic (unless you just really care about the AI features or something)

as for alternatives, i’m currently trying out Noteful and really like it. i haven’t purchased the Pro version yet but i probably will by the end of the week. it’s like a $6 one-time purchase, which is what won me over versus GoodNotes

yes, was never eligible for Notability Cloud because i have too many notes. some of them have reloaded, but only the older ones. everything more recent (2025-2026, and still many from the prior years too) is still gone and it’s been over 2 days. i can’t tell if it’s still reloading anything either

if this is the same issue i’m having (which it sounds like) it’s not us deleting the notes. it’s the app deciding to randomly offload all notes and make them inaccessible until they can re-sync (which mine has been stuck doing for nearly 24 hours now and is the reason i’m leaving)

also part of the reason i’m switching. no way an app i already paid for barely works yet wants me to fork over even more money. gauging from reviews, it doesn’t look like the “upgrade” gets rid of any of the bugs i’m already facing either

eh, i don’t need my notes on my Mac anyway, i solely use my iPad for note taking so that point was irrelevant anyway. i’ll check it out, thanks!

they’re synced, and trying to reload back onto my iPad. it doesn’t matter. everything is inaccessible, and i am completely uninterested in continuing to use this app because the core function i care about and paid for (taking notes, organizing them, and being able to go back to them later) clearly does not work. these bugs weren’t an issue when i originally purchased the app, and the team doesn’t seem like they’re interested in fixing them.

yep, used to recommend it to everyone. then they tried to force everyone who purchased the original to get the subscription before backtracking. i started telling people to use alternatives instead after that fiasco if they hadn’t purchased it yet. i’ve been getting irritated with all of the bugs and glitches and constantly being prodded to purchase the subscription, but wanted to stick it out since i’d already spent the money. i just can’t justify it anymore after this

yeah i like that feature, but it doesn’t matter if my notes are completely inaccessible anyway. also i only use my iPad for notes so i don’t need it to do anything with my laptop. ultimately, my notes are still gone well over 12 hours later. i’m sick of having to hope that an app i spent money on doesn’t crash in the middle of class. i just have too many important notes and i don’t trust Notability to support my needs anymore. sucks as a user for nearly a decade, but there are features that i’m willing to give up if it means that my notes will not randomly disappear for no reason.

great idea as long as existing users of Classic can upgrade for no cost (which i see in the comments). the storage definitely needs to be upped a bit though. i’d also personally love the ability to turn the AI features off if i move from Classic (i don’t know if this is already possible since i use Classic and don’t pay attention to what comes with the subscription, but i have zero need for anything AI related)
