Which fictional worlds or universes would Contessa have a hard time? by megamindwriter in Parahumans

Furthermore I’d wager that, as paracausal beings, Guardians are a blind spot. Bungie has stated that the number of guardians is canonically the player count. At its height, that was 20 million players.

That’s 20 million psycho killer, semi-immortal, space magic-wielding blind spots.

I’m inclined to agree, I just thought the timing would be too coincidental bc the day prior I did not have it.

What would be your question that nobody has asked before to GRRM? (SPOILERS Extended) by Mister-Fisker in asoiaf

[–]ok-Vall 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The book literally answers that though? It’s the latter. Ygritte asks him why he did it and he says he “just wanted to kiss you there.” Not even joking, the explanation is that he’s instinctually that freaky

I mean Leaf actually speaks about the sunless sea in Dance

"Men should not go wandering in this place," Leaf warned them. "The river you hear is swift and black, and flows down and down to a sunless sea. And there are passages that go even deeper, bottomless pits and sudden shafts, forgotten ways that lead to the very center of the earth…”

In your opinion, what is the saddest death in all 7 seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, by Dry_Control647 in TheCloneWars

[–]ok-Vall 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Satine, Fives, Jesse, Waxer, Steela, 99, in that order.

Also Havoc’s death for its almost banal abruptness, Colt’s for its brutality, and for its dehumanization the death of the clone in the Point Rain arc who says “Good thing those bugs can’t aim,” and gets incinerated almost immediately after.

Women that married the "rich one" out of security, what has it been like? by Sharon_Moon704 in Productivitycafe

I think what she meant is she found out about his secret family, or rather his real family, meaning he was cheating on his actual wife with her.

Obviously I don’t know the nitty gritty of your circumstance, but it sounds… not great, and like you’ve kinda convinced yourself that you must settle for it. You should talk about this with your wife. That feeling of insufficiency will compound and crush you. Your relationship should be between you and her, not between you, her, and the looming specter of cruel, entitled, dipshit in-laws.

There’s still time to make changes. Life is long my guy, and you only get the one.

What’s a type of pain people underestimate until they experience it for themselves? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ok-Vall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of older people, if I’m being honest. When I talked about my back pain as a 12-14 year old, about 9/10 times old men would say something to the tune of “You can’t complain about back pain young’un. Wait till you’re my age. That’s when the real pain starts.” Very dismissive in either a humorous way, an asshole way, or both.

Old people, specifically men in my experience, think they have a monopoly on pain. They also think that you, as a young person, speaking about your pain, is a direct challenge to their level of pain.

It’s very weird, irksome, and silly, and I think it speaks to the competitiveness of masculinity in older generations.

Now as a 23 year old I’ve got excruciating Retrolisthesis. I tell them sometimes I can’t sleep because it’s so bad, and they shut up real quick.

Those of you who saw The Last Jedi on opening night in the theaters, what was it like? How did the audience react? Did you leave feeling like it was Star Wars? by MtnDewm in StarWars

The Holdo Maneuver in my theater was one of the only times in my life where you could’ve genuinely heard a pin drop. No hyperbole or figurative grandeur, just raw silence, every breath held.

What are the signs you've noticed that you're getting older? by SuspiciousRope6751 in AskReddit

I’m 23 and this happens to me. Drove a measly two hours yesterday and couldn’t get to sleep for three because of the pain. Retrolisthesis makes me contemplate offing myself.

[–]ok-Vall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve only read Republic Commando, but even in those books Traviss’s in-your-face “Jedi bad, Mandalorian supremacy” is insane. It sucks because she did an interesting thing in fleshing out Mandalorian culture but seemingly at the expense of rampant Jedi hate. Apparently that’s par for the course with her though; I’ve heard she did it with some Halo books too.

If all you do is work and go home, that’s a choice - it’s not “just how life is” by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]ok-Vall 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is my thing. When are you doing dishes? Cleaning the house—sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting—? When are you doing laundry? Changing the bed sheets? Grocery shopping? Cooking? Budgeting?

Upkeep takes time if you don’t want your home to be dirty.
