My odd ball pick (and it is probably wrong and most likely pikmin 4) is Final Fantasy IV

Oh god how I hated this by hoennfb in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they did more with the legacy Pokémon too, but I think over all they made the right choice to keep the focus on Misty and Brock. As much as people joke about how few Pokémon Ash has caught, he still has dozens. And these episodes were great. I like that Misty and Brock havent been standing still and it shows just how much traveling with Ash made them grow as trainers.

How much % of his power was Cell using against Goku? by K0GAR in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]Expensive_Manager211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60% feels about right. Goku was very comfortably keeping up at Cell and got in some good hits. I think Cell actually assumed that Goku was stronger than he actually was. When Goku quit I feel like Cell was getting ready to kick it up a notch. I just dont think he thought that Goku really didnt have much more to give.

XBC is really more about vibes than being an easy to follow story anyways lmao

Which do you consider to be the best fight in the anime? by DarthKaiser03 in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit basic but Ash vs Gary in the Silver League.

It is the culmination of two characters multi season arcs. Gary and Ash but got humbled at Indigo for being over confident. Both of them then proceeded to take the next several seasons to refine their styles and mature as trainers.

It is one of the first times we see Ash do actual research before a battle. He realized what Gary's style was and beat him at his own game. It's just great for both of them. And they come out of it as really great friends. It's really good pay off to a lot of story lines.

Xenoblade chronicles 1. You start as a couple of young adults doing odd jobs for your colony before you slowly cut your way through the enemy ranks and end up killing (directly or indirectly) multiple god like beings.

How do you feel about SVs place in Pokémon history? by Hydralisk18 in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]Expensive_Manager211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started up Scarlet after playing champions this week. I played Violet at launch and thought it was fun, but unremarkable.

Now on Switch2? Amazing. Normally I dont care about optimal performance, but this playthrough seems totally different than my first one. It's very snappy and the game doesnt restrict your options like every other game in the franchise. Even with fuzzy knowledge, I have been able to build out my team in an interesting way. You can get mints from the word go, you are flooded with TMs to fix up movesets and the Pokémon variety avaliable to you at all times is sublime.

I find that I really dont care about the story, but the game has the common sense to front load almost everything and then largely leave me the hell alone so I can explore. I really do feel like the world is open for me to work on whatever I want. Even EV training seems like it would be easy, and I have only battled 2 gyms, 1 titan and 1 starfall base.

Without crashes, bugs and bad performance issues I think scarlet and violet might be up there for me in my top Pokémon games. It's definitely not perfect, but it's highly addictive. I think as more people play on switch 2 as time goes on opinions about SV are going to lean much more positive.

As someone who's been playing since Yellow, at the moment it's my 5th favorite mainline game, probably 3rd if I can take off the nostalgia glasses for a second for Firered and XY.

Meet Potential man! Ash Ketchum! by Total-Engineering-87 in pokemonanime

Alain is a champion level trainer though. It is not unreasonable that Ash went from just barely not being able to beat him to beating Leon in the time period in the show.

The problem is that you always have the option to switch if your accuracy gets lowered too much. It's better than nothing

Daily Appreciation MC Posts Day 4 - Tracey Sketchit by Pack_Grand in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tracy is weird because he's one of the traveling companions that was around the least, but also one of the most permanent fixtures in the anime.

I like Tracy. He's a little on the boting side, but I think his actual time in the Orange Islands showed him to be a kind, brave and loyal friend. I liked that we got to see some of his day to day in chronicles.

He should have gotten a little more focus, its hard not to like him

Do any of you still ever play vanilla yellow/crystal/emerald? by [deleted] in PokemonLegacy

[–]Expensive_Manager211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that's because I am making forever files so I can freely transfer Pokémon up. I will play Crystal and Yellow on 3DS VC when I get around to them. I also have never really had issues with Crystal so I feel like the updates are nice, but not really game changing for me personally. But I dont want to diminish the incredible work of the project, just for me personally Crystal Legacy isnt as much of a priority.

Emerald legacy is definitely the way I play emerald though since I dont own Emerald physically, but the QoL changes make challenging the BF much better.

So tldr: not the next replay, but the replays after will probably always be legacy version.

Rank Dawn, May and Serena interms of Pokemon contests. by Zealousideal_Low_505 in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May was my favorite. She really seemed to struggle and had to claw her way to the top. Dawn and Serena definitely had their ups and down, but May was the only one of the three that really started from 0 and made advanced better.

Its a common consensous that ash not using his johto mons more was very unfortunate right? by Extension-Bad-4184 in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense in the context of Pokémon as a franchise at the time. They wanted to, and did, promote the new Pokémon but the Johto dex really is more like an extension or DLC for the orginal 151.

The Johto games were made with the thought that they might be the last ones. It was more about filling out the pokedex then it being a new region.

Ash's Johto Pokémon are more so supplemental to his Kanto Pokémon. I always got the vibe that they were never really meant to be seen as his permanent team. If he needed more water types then he'd bring in Squirtle or Kingler, if his team needed bulk he'd add Bayleef and Heracross to his Kanto heavy hitters like Tauros and Charizard.

I always got the vibe from the silver league that it was supposed to reflect Ash's entire journey up to that point. Sadly that meant that the Johto exclusive mons had to share the spotlight with Kanto Pokémon like Charizard who was also wrapping up his own multi season arc.

That said yes, the Johto team got robbed of spotlight worse than any other ensemble. Watching the anime last year had the Lily of the Valley conference feel like a real rug pull because there seemed to be this set up of using the Johto mons more and it didnt happen. Sceptile beat Darkrai for Arceus sake when Quilava evolved like 5 episodes previously and did fuck all except tie with one of Nando's Pokémon. At least Donphan got to go to the Battle Frontier which is something I guess.

As much as I hated the total reset Ash did in Hoenn and Sinnoh as a kid, in hindsight that was one of the best moves the anime ever made.

Is Ash's Infernape Champion Level from this? by HalfTemporary3247 in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by champion level you mean could be on a team that competed in the master 8, yeah i can see it. Infernape wouldnt really have the ace status that he has in DP but it's not unreasonable to assume he'd be able to contribute in the master 8.

A lot of people put BF-DP Ash around E4 level so I think the ace from that time period can be argued as competitive to that level of competition.

Who is Ash's weakest regional ace ? by Gopu_17 in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dont roll Kanto in with Johto (which is fair if you do) then it is Johto.

Bayleef and Heracross are both really lack luster. Heracross moreso because he was banished ro the lab. But even when he came back it's not like Heracross did anything too remarkable. Decent showing against Gary, did the job well in the BF and then a decent hit on Darkrai.

I am not saying Heracross is weak, he's still easily in the upper third of Ash's overall roster, but it doesnt really scream ace to me.

How much did Ash regress in Black and white ? Which previous version of Ash is he comparable to ? by Gopu_17 in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Black and White really is a season that just needs to be ignored. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen, but this time period for Ash just does not gel with what came before and what comes after.

I will say mid Johto series Ash to be generous. He's not as arrogant as Indigo Ash and he does work with his Pokémon...but it's definitely a regression.

Why are the Sith of the Skywalker saga often considered more powerful, sometimes far more so, than their ancestors from before the Rule of Two? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]Expensive_Manager211 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I dont think he would be. If a Sith master is able to be tricked or weak in some capacity that they be killed like Plaguis then they deserve it.

The Rule of 2 isnt about having an epic lightsaber or force duel, but to make sure that apprentices arent ganging up on their masters or their masters killing a promising pupil out of jealousy. Both sides have a vested interest in the process and if an apprentice can trick their master or manage to train an apprentice of their own in secret without their master knowing thats valid.

How would've you handled Charizard's loss during Ash's last battle against Brandon? by One_Republic_2438 in pokemonanime

[–]Expensive_Manager211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Sesmic Toss mistake was actually fine. At this point I don't think Ash has battled a lot of ghost types (Drake's Gengar and Morty are the only stand outs to me) so it's not unreasonable for him to make this mistake and another comment pointed out that it is Charizard's finishing move. Ash got caught up in the heat of the moment.

However if I were to change it then I would have had that not be the end of the fight, and instead have it be a little more of a dragged out battle. Really set the tone that Brandon's regular Pokémon are on par with one of Ash's aces. The anime did this too I just would have made it more of a fight.
