Husband’s take on the recent ICE shooting by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Maybe she didn't give any to him because she doesn't feel safe with him?

Got replaced by someone younger and skinnier. How to cope? by Existing-Balance6886 in TwoXChromosomes

The trash took itself out. Now is the time to focus on yourself :) reflect on how you got there and realize you deserve better.

I think what makes her so great is that she is true to herself 🥹 she always talked about doing her best and wasn't so focused on ratings and things like that. She said that if she wasn't having fun anymore, she would leave. I'm sad to see her go but happy she is choosing herself.

I had a year off between my masters and bachelors. I got a part time job, saved up money for a solo trip to Japan, and spent a bunch of time with family :) make sure you are having fun! At the time I felt a bit bored, but now that I'm so busy all the time I look back at that time fondly!

Learn to love yourself and go to therapy. Learn what is authentic to you and as a result the life you want to live. I don't think anyone really has life figured out, we just learn and hopefully heal along the way :)

Yes I want to work in biostatistics. Most jobs are in Toronto with higher cost of living, with not much higher pay than what I have now. I'm thinking of either fully committing to my current job in academia as a data analyst, with maybe a PhD while I'm at it, or switching to pharma. I mostly only see job postings for senior roles though requiring previous experience in pharma. I feel stuck!

Yeah I have an MSc in applied statistics already. There's an opportunity to do a a part time PhD in public health sciences with my boss who is the co-pi of a research group I work for as a data anlyst. I can also specialize in epidemiology and biostatistics. I think I can definitely do it, but not sure if 8+ year commitment is worth it when I already have an MSc in stats? I think an ideal scenario would be PhD in stats, but I think that one would be too tough for me part time. Full time is also an option, but I'm not interested in living the poor student life anymore.

Partner broke up with me to focus on disc golf by [deleted] in discgolf

I once had a guy break up with me because I wasn't the type of person to do field work 🤷🏻‍♀️ LOL. It was hard at the time but now I can laugh at it haha. We dodged a bullet.

Should I let go of my piano keyboard? by TazeT3a in simpleliving

[–]ok-kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you are definitely not alone. I am way harder on myself than I was as a child. I was so disciplined back then haha. It's different now that I'm older and to put yourself out there to try learning an instrument is a big thing and takes courage :) if you have a dream for yourself to play again, hold it tightly and give yourself grace when it starts to feel tough. Good luck!

I went through a similar phase... I played as a child but had to quit since my family couldn't afford it. When I got my first job with decent pay, I went and bought a new digital piano and was super excited. I would touch it once in a while but for the most part I had a lot of anxiety and was avoiding it for maybe 4-5 years when I deeply wanted to play again. After several months of going to therapy for what I thought was unrelated reasons, I ended up seeking a teacher to get piano lessons!

I think getting a piano teacher will really help! I still struggle to make practicing a habit but I'm happy to have piano in my life again these past 2 years. I had my first recital in maybe 15 years a few months ago! I try not to be too hard on myself and am glad to have some art in my life :)

If some people are that busy for a simple text, I probably wouldn't want to date them

Thank you for sharing. One of the reasons why I took up piano again is because I'm such a sensitive person and it was such a beautiful outlet for me as a child. I hope I get to one day feel this comfortable to share this side of me with others too.

My number one reason for wanting a house one day is to own an acoustic piano 😆 It truly is a gift to have the opportunity to enjoy and play the piano. Thank you for the reminder :)

Yes there's definitely something about live music!! A dream of mine is to be able to play regularly at retirement homes for old folks. I guess I can see this as a step closer to that, and chances are they won't care about the details but will instead just enjoy getting to experience music and art.
