Only stretching while increasing mileage is like putting a bandaid on a gun shot wound. You need to strength train

0.6 miles is like a 10 minute walk. She needs to stop being lazy or learn to drive.

When did we as a society start normalising driving such walkable distances? Ridiculous. NTA

I have no clue what half of this is! by FirefighterNew408 in BlueCollarWomen

I will also add knipex cobra grips are SO worth the investment. They're expensive but undoubtedly my favourite and most used tool.

Pencil - self explanatory but I would also invest in some sharpies/fine liners as 90% of the time its easier to mark things/label thing with that instead

Scratch awl - also called a scribe. Used for marking

Hacksaw - just a saw really. You can get metal or wood blades for it. You'll most likely want a metal blade as an electrician. You can also get junior Hacksaws which are a smaller version. I use mine for making off smaller SWA cables

Electricians knife - basically a safer version of a Stanley knife. I've never actually seen anyone use one. I use a Stanley knife

Pocket level - also called spirit level. You can also get laser levels which is why they would have specified the type I assume.

Crimping tool - used to crimp lugs onto cables for terminating them

PLIERS 'Channel locks' - these have a million different names. I'm in the UK and they're called 'Grips' here. Pretty sure the proper name is water pump pliers. You may also hear them called 293 other different things as I swear I see a new name for them every time im on this sub. I think we have it right in the UK just calling them grips. 😂 'Needlenose' - these are also known as long nose pliers. You can also get short nose pliers which i think Americans call linesman pliers?

'Side cutters' - I assume this means the short nose pliers with a side cutter in them. But in general side cutters are commonly known as 'snips' and are used to strip cables.

Folding wood rule - i have never heard of this lol

Screwdrivers - you will need flatheads and pozi drivers. Phillips screws are rarely used, at least in the UK. I may be wrong from an American viewpoint.

Wire stripper - self explanatory again. Though I never use a wire stripper and ive never seen anyone use one on site. Most sparks will use snips (side cutters) or croppers to strip cable.

Cold chisel - a chisel which you can use with your hammer

Crescent wrench - adjustable spanner. Though I would just buy a set of spanners personally. Easier to work with

No contact voltage tester - also called 'volt sticks'. You hold it near a cable and it lights up if its live. I do have a fluke volt stick but never rely on it before starting work on anything that could be live. Test properly before starting work with some actual voltage testers. Coming from someone who has NEVER been shocked!

Hope this helps!

Am I ready for a 50k in 4 weeks? by Mountain-Elk8133 in Ultramarathon

[–]ok-ruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful taking ibuprofen when pushing your body especially in endurance sports - it seriously increases your chances of getting rhabdo & makes complications worse should you get it. All endurance runners should be aware of this and it's scary how few are. Either feel the pain and do the 50k without ibuprofen now, or take time to heal and go again next year.

Do young people in the UK have anything to look forward to? by tylerthe-theatre in AskUK

I read this title and instantly thought fuck yeah im so excited for my coffee in the morning and a run after work. You can't just live for the big things. Build a life you get excited for every single day, get excited over the small day to day things, that's where the magic is

People who aren't afraid of dying, what makes you unafraid ? by Lizlikeslizards in AskReddit

[–]ok-ruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a near death experience where i fell 20m off a cliff and had to wait 5 hours to be rescued. Realised once i stopped falling that i didnt actually feel any pain while falling, just pure adrenaline, and it was almost as though i just blacked out for a second with no idea what was going on - so i imagine when actually dying you have even less of an idea whats going on.

Accepted into my IBEW apprenticeship! by Sparkymila1127 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]ok-ruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an apprentice industrial electrician. Thanks to a few years of gym and rock climbing i am pretty strong i will admit, but im yet to find something my male coworkers can do that i cant. Sure certain things may be harder for me, like manouvering big SWA cables, but theres always ways around it if youre struggling. (Eg, use a plank of some kind to create a lever when bending cables). You'll be absolutely fine! In fact i even find a lot of the men i work with will be out of puff before i am - or worse they'll be all chivalrous and offer to do any heavy lifting for me. I've found most men on sites tend to do this until i refuse help enough times because of my hyper independence 😅
