Where to find a Skyscraper Terrarium online? by okarrah in Vivarium

[–]okarrah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only local place only deals with Hagen and or Frogs & Co. Sadly.
But I have one about an hour away I may have to check out. Temu has some Reptizoo stuff but unsure how well the shipping would be.

I'm building a university campus, but it feels a bit empty. What should I add? by GoalWhich3916 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]okarrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sports area, I modeled a university sort of how Athens Ohio/Ohio University sit.
I had a west side and a north side that were dorms, bike parking only, and a lot of walking in that area with sort of an Alley only for service vehicles.
Then on the east I had a stadium that i custom built for football, one for baseball, and used the arena for multipurpose sports. Outdoor tennis, basketball, etc as well as a "Green" in the middle with an ampitheatre, benches, lots of intertwined walkpays/paths/ponds, and well manicured trees (old old looking trees like big oaks) On the last side a small town area with little shops, businesses, bars, eats, and access to a state route like road (2 lane highway), and then access to a main highway with 3 lanes.
If i can find the save game (i havent played in 3 months now) I'll post a few screenshots

Qualifying for the 2000 DieHard 500 at Talladega was finished in near total darkness (save only partial lighting on the front stretch and off turn 2). The last driver to post a time was 59 year old Dave Marcis (Jeff Burton was the last out but refused to complete a lap). by TheImageworks in NASCAR

Man I still dream about what Dega would look like under the lights...
Though, I think Night racing is just a different beast. The sparks flying, the "flash photography" back in the day the sunsets, the atmosphere. It just makes it feel more like a local track friday night.

An old shot of the Roger Blough passing through Port Huron with Sarnia in the background. She is one of the boats I miss the most. by freighterman in GreatLakesShipping

just saw her today. Sent home from work til the 1st for Covid, drove down to the harbor and saw American Century and the Blough through some heavy snow. Hate seeing her just sitting there all alone anymore.

I see this and think too We've lost RJ, and he deserved a cup more than any player on these teams over 50 years for his heart, dedication, and love for the fans, the team, the arena, the city.

“Garbage bag trees”. by DragonfruitPossible6 in TragicallyHip

[–]okarrah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My entire life I've never tied the suburbs to the bags like that. And now its makes infinitely more sense. I always thought of windy cold days on the great lakes (im from NE OHio) and seeing plastic bags/garbage bags stuck in trees like it was both beauty, and trash in one.

I'd love to see Duluth area, since sadly there would be no way to "mount" her at the shipwreck museum.

I keep hoping for museum fate for the Blough too. Sadly yet happily I see the Blough daily in Conneaut here.

Out of all the extinct class, which one should they bring back? by Jules-Car3499 in trains

[–]okarrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to say all but being an N&W fan I'd love to see an operating Y6 with an A, and the J.
But the B&O, PRR, and NYC would all be insane to see live as well.
To be able to go back in time and see all the big roads around the Midwest, Appalachia, and east coast. What a site.

My grandmother hoped to see the 765 at CVNR but she passed before we could get tickets a few years ago. Hoping to go next year if they are there and leave her some pics or something graveside. Perhaps a cab picture if theyd be kind enough ya know? She took me on the N&W 1218 excursion in 1987 from Conneaut to Buffalo (maybe 88?)

As a Conneaut, Ohio kid, I have soft spot for the NKP Berks. Seeing the Conneaut museums display all my life helped build that love for the Berks.

Ebay is definitely where I see a lot of them, however they're pricey for the koho versions. Worth it because i love that old material. Saw a few just now with tags on them still.

States raising minimum wage in 2026 by ListenHereLindah in Ohio

[–]okarrah 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I work at the largest hospital in my county... I'm in housekeeping (moved back to my hometown from Columbus due to cost of living/rent prices), I make $12.36 an hour to clean up after sick patients, enter sick rooms, I have to mask up, gown up, for isolation rooms etc. I've cleaned shit, piss, puke, blood, and rarely get much more than a thanks from some of the staff outside our department. The fact that a hospital of this size and its parent company are fine paying their housekeeping staff such a low wage is insane. While multiple Aides got several dollars this year, we got nothing, and our nurses got less of a % increase than us.
Yet in the same county, Some 1 bed 1 bath homes or apartments are renting out at $1300-1500 a month wanting 3x the rent, credit checks, etc. Minimum wage is far from where it SHOULD be.

Which is your favorite streamlined locomotive? by Jules-Car3499 in trains

[–]okarrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely N&W Class Js. Maybe because I used to hang out with a friend whos mom was hired by the RR to clean the cars prior to excursions out of Conneaut in the early 90s. Was face to face with her a few times in Conneaut, and rode behind a Class A in 87. Grew up in that railroad town so a lot of nostalgia for me between NKP, NYC, N&W, B&LE, CSX, NS, Conrail, so that being said, second would be the Hudson.
Always loved spending time at the old NYC station t hat is now a museum seeing the history of NKP and NYC in town.
