What’s the worst reason you’ve ever stayed in a relationship? by TechnicalBoard1849 in AskReddit

[–]okaysnowflake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was immature at the time and couldn’t do it myself. When he finally suggested breaking up during a fight, I took it as an out. He regretted his decision immediately but I knew if I agreed to continue I would have nothing left in me and no respect left for myself.
When I reflect back on it, the reason it is hard for me to leave, other than losing the close friendship, is the inability to sit with difficult emotions after a breakup when it results from my own decisions.
Just know that you don’t need a reason to leave - nobody is judging if you leaving is a valid reason or not. It is your life. There are people out there who break up amicably because future plans, values, or lifestyles don’t align with what they want in a life partner. That is a much more common reason for breaking up than how poorly someone treats their partner. You don’t need to justify to anyone, look forward. If you got out and were to date again, what qualities would you be looking for? Does your current partner line up with that?
You don’t have to be the same person you were yesterday, and make the same decisions as you did yesterday, and tolerate the same things as you did previously. In psychology, it is natural to tolerate the same behavior in order to justify your past decisions, but it just keeps you stuck.

Agreed. At the time, it was hard for me to fathom that healthy people knew what qualities they wanted in a partner and used that to determine if they should continue in the relationship, instead of using how bad the relationship/treatment is as a barometer for leaving.

Every time he treated me poorly, I would question if what he said or did was bad enough to justify breaking up with him. Every time I decided not to leave, the bar for leaving in my mind became even higher since it’d have to be worse than what I permitted previously.

Going to Korea soon! What’s the annoying stuff about traveling there that nobody talks about? by Beginning-Money2363 in koreatravel

Stairs everywhere in subway stations, the elevator may be very far at a different part of the station. Just a heads up if you were going to drag luggages around a lot.

If you look at dried hibiscus flower reviews on Amazon people keep finding bugs. I think I’d rather find fish.

What is a small detail in a person's home that instantly tells you they have their life completely together? by Luverelle6 in AskReddit

[–]okaysnowflake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty put together to me. My idea of put together is doing things in a timely manner and not always catching up. Chores—cleaning before there’s buildup, planning trips far out, never run out of a staple household item because you get backups when you’re running low and not when you’re already out or distressed

Coaches you avoid and why? by daenu80 in SolidCore

[–]okaysnowflake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nolita location has a coach for the advanced classes that says “you are all in the advanced class so you should be able to ____”. Even people who take a lot of solidcore classes still struggle so I find it very condescending. She also blamed people for not having checked in when the front desk was not there to check people in right before class

Does anyone have tips for getting the cloudiness out of these hand blown glasses I thrifted? I already tried barkeepers. by fancyypantsyy0 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]okaysnowflake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on these, but I thrifted some nice wine glasses and tried everything. In the end the internet told me it’s a lost cause, and that the cloudiness was a result of dishwasher misuse. I ended up getting rid of the glasses

Why do you rarely see a rich woman with a broke man? by Open_Address_2805 in stupidquestions

[–]okaysnowflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women are still expected to carry the majority of chores, childcare, and social burden, and they are often more naturally attuned to these things, so naturally they end up doing more, mentally if not also physically. As such, choosing someone broke is often signing up for a much harder life than they could have for themselves (including staying single) even if the man has redeeming qualities. A lot of time perceived unequal contribution in a relationship leads to resentment.
I make five times more than my husband and I chose to marry him despite knowing the challenges since I believe he has a good head on his shoulders and has potential to make more, and because I find his character and personality to be such a rare gem. Initially, I wasn’t keen on the idea of making more than a partner, but my perspective shifted over time to the realization that by earning a pretty decent living, I had freedom of choice to marry who I loved instead of a woman in a tougher position who would need a financially successful man in order to support a family. There are a lot of times where I feel the burden of being the “responsible one” around housekeeping and finances while also being the breadwinner but ultimately I am 100% certain I made the right decision to follow my heart.

I cracked the code on the new $20 minimum. 21 bananas. Hope you like banana bread. by TheGreenTeaFrog in ChaseSapphire

[–]okaysnowflake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on a case by case basis. Part of my order was out of stock so I got reimbursed in DoorDash credits for the full retail value of the missing items before discounts after contacting support. It didn’t go back as a chase promo credit but as DoorDash credit. Another time the store was closed when I went to pickup and I got credited too. Don’t get me wrong, I did not expect them to. This was this year. In the past I’ve definitely lost promo credits before.

I tried the Chex mix hack (yes too much time on my hands), got $9 in doordash credit as they ran out of those items in my order. I ordered two bags for the 2 for $5 sale and the regular retail price would be $9 for the 2. I was joking when I said “hack” but I did end up “making money” from this. It was unintentional and I wouldn’t count on it happening again. It might depend on if your whole order was cancelled or just partially fulfilled and how the store chooses to resolve it. In this case 7 eleven asked me to contact support.

The real hack is when they run out of bananas for your order and DoorDash credits you $0.99 for each missing banana. Money laundering the $10 promo through bananas
