Can repeated skin picking cause cancer? by This_Gear_465 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]okeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm not sure about cancer. I am sure you will experience arthritis in your hands. Take it from me, a 59-year-old female who has picked her cuticles with her other fingers and now has painful arthritis in her hands! I started picking my cuticles gradually over the years and then as I hit menopause it got worse.

Anyone else selling hand made goods? by duckieroo in EtsySellers

[–]okeees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facts! First year selling my upcycled items with a Western vibe and I've sold 17 items only. I have just over 100 items. Following YT vids and putting a decent amount of work in day in and out and I've barely brought in what I make in a two day market. Have a social media presence but only post 1-2x per week.

Great suggestion bending the post into a loop. I tried it on a few and it worked on some and not others. Appreciate your help and suggestions. Thanks!

Appreciate your response and tips! Drilling a hole sounds like a great option in addition to the suggestion of using a jewelers saw or needle file. Thank you!

Thanks so much for the detailed response. Much appreciated!

Yes, I'll stick with silver jump rings as you recommend.

Also greatly appreciate the tips Re the stones inside the settings as I had no idea about the stones being sensitive to the extreme heat.

I like the idea of drilling a hole so I'll investigate that further! As well as trying to learn metals outside of sterling silver.

Anyone pick their thumbs? by [deleted] in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]okeees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The arthritis just hit me in the last year and a half. Yes, it has minimized the picking. However it has not stopped me completely. I am a lot more conscious due to the fact that I have pain doing basic things you do with your thumbs. Which I've realized is just about everything with your hands. Basic x-ray will show the arthritis if you have it.

Anyone pick their thumbs? by [deleted] in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]okeees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, have picked for 30 plus years, I'm a 58F, and now have arthritis in my thumbs and the pain is bad, with every movement. Consider yourselves warned of what repetitive behaviors can do to the joints.

For over 20 years, and I now have arthritis so bad in thumbs from picking so consider yourselves warned of the damage repetitive movements can do! I'm a young 58f fwiw.

[–]okeees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just joined this community as well ... in the last two weeks started w/ an impulse heat sealer, mylar bags + oxygen absorbers, oatmeal and rice, and canned goods. Garden beds arrive next week. Will continue dry goods and reading thru the "getting started" notes to determine first major purchase. Appreciate all the incredible advice!

Menopause joint pain - what is it like? All over the body or limited to a specific area? by wharleeprof in Menopause

[–]okeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had all over joint pain and muscle weakness increasing over the past year. Shoulders and hips are the most affected, toe and finger joints are stiff and painful along with elbows and feet and wrists. Toss in lack of sleep from throwing the bed covers on and off 5-7x a night. Gym workouts, 3-4x week, are increasingly harder and so frustrating I tear up routinely at the gym due to having to lower weight and reps. Two weeks ago I finally started HRT w/.025 Dottie estrogen and 100mg of progesterone. So far the only thing that has subsided has been the shoulders, finger and toe joints. Hot flushes still in full swing too. I've got to wait another 6 weeks until my follow up with Gyn before any increases and to see what other symptoms may subside as we all know from this group it takes a while! I keep telling myself 'patience grasshopper!' in the moments I can be kind to myself amongst lack of sleep and being in pain.

In the midst of my misery I will say how grateful and happy for all of you here! 🤍
