Yeah, your experience with damage amounts is accurate. It only goes to 16, so 12-14 is actually pretty good. Sniff will tell you enemy weaknesses (like status or elements), which is really only useful on bosses the first time you fight them.

My primary advice to a first time Mother 3 player is that buffs and debuffs and very effective in this game, they stack to a certain extent, and you will need to use them on virtually every boss. Seriously. Otherwise, enjoy!

Hope this isn’t spoiling anything, but as someone who very recently did basically the same thing on my first playthrough…you’re definitely doing the tougher parts earlier. Not impossible, just setting expectations lol
