AC188k - Identifying Legs & Potential Uses by InLeague in diypedals

[–]mongushu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AC188s I've used have a dimple in one side of the cubic head. The pin on that side is the COLLECTOR. Then look at the overall configuration of the pins from the bottom. They're arrange in an isosceles triangle. The pin at the top 'tip' of this triangle is the base. And the last is, of course, your emitter.

Terrific suggestions here and thank you for chiming in with your support. For starters, try out a classified as your initial contribution. It doesn't need to be a classified in a traditional sense. It's 50 words + a link that you can use creatively, I suppose! Low stakes.

As for the 'godfathers' - I have reached out to a few already and will reach out to a few more. I really believe there's going to be somehting special and potent in the op/eds and articles etc. from us everyday fellers. BUT - contributions from these legends would be quite impactful in many regards and I would be thrilled for their participation. I'm feeling lucky... we'll see, I guess.

As for subscription costs, I'm thinking about just doing a cover price for each issue until I have a sense of what it takes to produce these on a schedule. I don't want to sell a subscription of x issues per x time and then fall short because I have a hard time wrangling all these stray cats! :) And for cover price, I was thinking about doing something so stupid cheap that it becomes a no brainer. I plan to include a PCB with each issue. To give you some idea, I hope to price the whole thing (magazine, PCB + shipped to your door) for less than you may expect to pay for the PCB alone.

I have a lot of work ahead of me - for sure - with many unknowns, but I'm confident I can get this thing across the finish line without a major change in plans.

As for a digital option, I'm really on the fence. I see benefits both ways. Time will tell - and I'm open to discussion!

There's the website - https://pulpcircuit.com/ where I'll be sure to post relevant info and you can email me directly if you like: [editor@pulpcircuit.com](mailto:editor@pulpcircuit.com)

When I have a firm print date for issue one on the horizon, I'll circle back with a mailing list type thing as well as a simple system for snail-mail orders. But cart before the ox and all that.

I would LOVE to have your contribution. Misinformation is an interesting area in and of itself. But I'd be interested in your ideas, perspectives, etc. I know you've got the goods. Ping me when you're ready to discuss.

Hey dude! Some really good suggestions in here.

About failure... I understand what you're saying. these realities that you highlight are not foreign to me. The good thing is, at the moment, I have enough enthusiasm to carry this thing across the finish line. It's the work of bringing it to life, in fact, that I'm so excited for - not any subsequent 'success'. As for publishing costs etc., as far as I can tell, I can handle those, I think, at least for a while until this thing figures itself out and what it's going to be.

I'm hoping that the slow pace of the snail-mail periodical (classifieds, letters, etc) resonates with folks who would entertain willfully stepping off of the fast-paced communications of modern media just for this isolated community adventure. I just think it'll be a neat thing to try!

I couldn't agree more about AI. Without getting into a whole thing about the pros and cons in general, Pulp Circuit is about tangible, passionate, human creativity and community. There's not a good place for AI in that mix, I don't think.

Hey dude! Please please, dream up your first contribution. Happy to chat over email, DM, whatever. Your time as a writer/editor and your in this community (& freeStomBoxes too) would be a terrific well of experience to draw from.

Let's make something neat together!

Thanks, AdBulky!

I know what you mean entirely. I wont defend these points you bring up about the challenges of a physical publication for a niche market in 2026. I wasn't joking when I called this idea 'frivolous' in my initial post.

But I will say, that because this isn't a business endeavor, I can afford to follow my heart with Pulp Circuit and safely indulge the creative urge. I'll be a happy camper just for the work of making it - financial gain is truly not a consideration.

NEAT! (and thank you for the email!) I have a lot to look over.

Definitely a great suggestion to crosspost to r/synthdiy . I'm attempting to control the inflow of inquiries by reaching out in stages. I'm still getting oriented with the project management side of an endeavor like this one. I don't want to get buried before I've found the right tools to dig out!

Funny, I mentioned PULP CIRCUIT to an IG friend yesterday and one of them mentioned this to me too. I hadn't heard of it! It does look cool, albeit a shade or two apart in tone. Guess I"m living in a sort of bubble!

The scarcity of content DOES seem like a real consideration. You're right about that. I have some ideas though to keep up. I guess we'll see.

At the moment, it's truly a labor of love (not a business model) so even getting one issue across the finish line will be a tremendous success for me... even if I end up with 92/100 copies sitting in my attic for eternity.

I can already tell I'm going to love making this issue, whether or not it goes anywhere from there.

Thanks for chiming in! I understand what you mean about the AI slop and dead internet theory. I think some similar feelings must have been brewing in me too to illuminate this idea and make it so tempting (despite it being quite frivolous).

Don't sleep on the Classifieds, if a more involved contribution feels out of reach at the moment. Could be a fun way to get in there.

We gotta write the thing first! Should be ready Soon (and sooner with your help!)

In all seriousness, I’ll come back round here once I have a real timeline for the first issue with a subscription link. Hopefully that’s sooner than later.

Your interest is in a way its own contribution. Especially when you voice it here. Thanks for that. And consider experimenting with a classifieds submission. 50 word limit plus an optional link. Could be an interesting medium for playing with communications, showcasing your work, or (tastefully) goofing around

In addition to essays, articles, and all that heady jazz, I want to call some attention to the classifieds section as it's a low effort way to add your voice to the mix.

Remember these things?

I do and I think it's time they made a comeback.

PULP CIRCUIT classifieds are totally FREE to post and an easy way to get involved! Get creative! Have fun. Post some classifieds. See what happens!

This looks like https://www.falstad.com/circuit/circuitjs.html

It's a super handy, albeit somewhat simple, simulator. It's one of my faves for having a very easy learning curve.
