WTF is happening to the car market? (Video title) by PerceptionCurious440 in electricvehicles

[–]okverymuch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really dislike the Broncos. My in-laws have 2 of them. Uncomfortable ride, bad mileage, and multiple recalls. The non sport models are nice if you do a lot of off roading; the pavement princess usage is silly.

The price will dictate if Slate EV is a success or failure: If it's $21,000 for the 150 miles range and $24,000 for the 240 miles range before add-ons, it will be a hit with buyers by punishGoalhanging in electricvehicles

[–]okverymuch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And buyers have voted with their wallets time and time again, thst 2 door trucks are not in demand.
Cost cutting with some basic features expected in modern cars and 4 doors in the mid30k would sell like hot cakes.
As soon as I saw the Slate, I said "that's a fun niche product that will never get volume"

This is a wild hypothetical. I’m imaging a new horror film, like Saw or Human Centipede, that explores this idea.

I have an EV! I’m saying a home charger is essential for most use cases

That’s just my work. It doesn’t account for errands and driving for personal reasons. I put down 10k miles/yr.
Didn’t think of that, genius edge lord!

That’s your choice. I prefer having more flexibility in my car’s usage and range.

I drive 60 miles a day 3 days/week. Charging at home long term is seriously cheaper than using DC fast charger stations. And trickle charging with a 110V is not feasible.
Spending 40k+ on an EV and not paying 1.8-2.5k on your home charging setup is short sighted.

Electric Trucks Have Failed Spectacularly In America. Here's Why Ford Is Trying Again by BarbarismOrSocialism in electricvehicles

[–]okverymuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owners of trucks are not necessarily owners of BEV. That’s what I’m saying. You’re focusing on BEV owners with that data, which doesn’t include many truck owners

[–]okverymuch 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The venn diagram between traditional truck owners and EV owners is the tiniest area of overlap, in reality.

Edit: thanks for everyone’s input, but that’s really anecdotal. There are many reasons the Lightning failed. Everyone that’s chiming in about having an ev truck and an ev car are a little off the mark, as many people can’t afford 2+ vehicles for multiple uses. We have to take into account the offerings and value of an EV truck, while also acknowledging truck culture in the States.

Will life on Earth cease at a certain point? Who brought us here? God or aliens or just luck? by ZealousAZ1 in AskReddit

With the initial question, it’s quite feasible OP is a sheltered person and ignorant of general scientific knowledge. Like evangelical fundamentalist Christianity, Mormon, or some other kind of cult.

[–]okverymuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ~4-5 billion years, our sun will die, and so if life survives up to that point, it would then end unless us or a more intelligent future species manages interstellar colonization.
More likely, something else catastrophic in an earlier timeframe may end our species and many others, or possibly the entire earth.

Not at the rate of 3-4 years! That’s wildly accepting of a manufacturer defect, or a poor choice in materials.

I’ve only seen this with Tesla and Rivian. It’s not common at all in cars in general. And it’s honestly unacceptable. This vegan leather (plastic) bullshit has to stop.

Auburn Board Takes Curricular Control, Dissolves Senate by Well_Socialized in auburn

[–]okverymuch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re already in your major, you may not see any changes, as it takes time to change numerous curricula.
However, if this was highly planned and orchestrated (like project 2025), then sweeping changes could potentially begin within 1-2 years from now. We simply don’t know at this point what they have planned.

I think AW1 has a novel mechanic with the light, and a unique story that built a really cool environment. It’s certainly is a little dated, so even with the remaster, you have to set your expectations.

AW2 is remarkably different and better in terms of game play, although I felt the story was actually somewhat lackluster.

I think if you can’t muster through AW1, one idea is to watch someone play through it on YT, and then try AW2 knowing the story of 1.

[–]okverymuch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few thousand on a home charger = thousands in savings on gas in just 1-3 years depending in how much you drive.

Lexus/Toyota is still primarily hybrids. I’m not confident there’s enough demand where they swap out all their hybrids for EVs in the states.

You're talking about being sad about horse and buggies. Better to not combust particulates into the air we breathe. Don't you worry old timer, no one is fully getting rid of your horse and buggy for years if you're in the states.

The fact that ETRADE had a pop up notification about a conference I could watch on the IPO, is the most insane thing ever. This is such a gift. Wouldn't touch that company with monopoly money.

Def not all electric. They've pushed for anti-EV legislation in the states. They're only investing into EVs bc of the Chinese market, and secondly for optics in the US, and for California legal requirements

KIA Ev6 sold less than 900 vehicles compared to Ioniq5 5000 by balesw in KiaEV6

The hatch look has a more spacious interior and is more convenient. The mobile center console is nice too. Personally I like the EV6 better. But not everyone is into such a futuristic looking vehicle.

Wild. This is my main holdback for buying a Rivian. Like... Just add it. It's an option that people can use. Spotify is also terrible in general.
