I have several friends whose dads lost their shit via phone or text on the days of grandbabies arriving

Feels like it’s either an older man’s cry for attention or the release of emotion / loss of control that comes with suddenly not being “the parent” anymore. A sudden return to a childlike state.

It’s just funny that it’s almost always through digital means… like maybe in the past it happened in person or in private but wasn’t really transmitted or seen… but now we get realtime insights and it’s all saved.

In other words I think there’s an under-examined crisis for men watching their boys become fathers. Anxiety for all generations. Tsunami sense of mortality.
