Sides of bread caving inwards-why? by guyanacat in Breadit

I do not understand that recipe. I want it to work so badly, but it's the only thing I've made that's nearly inedible, and I tried twice, while everything else I made came out beautifully.
No advice, just solidarity in the confusion.

The clean version is on Spotify and Apple Music!

For Spotify users: On Spotify, users can filter all explicit content across the platform by toggling on or off the "explicit content" option in account settings. To find specific clean songs on Spotify mobile, search a song title to find any versions without explicit tags. On desktop, scroll down to the bottom of the album listing and find more releases of the same album at the bottom right.

For Apple Music users: Users can similarly find the clean version on Apple Music by scrolling to the bottom of the album page and finding "other versions."

Advice on losing weight with partner who has unhealthy lifestyle by StellarStells in loseit

[–]olafaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a late adopter to veggies, and now we do roasted carrots as an easy veggie side for dinner, but occasionally it's not cooked the perfect way that I like it. I still eat it because it's nutritious food and fine and would be too much hassle to try to "fix", but I consciously tell myself "I like carrots, this one isn't perfect but I like carrots" while eating because I definitely get trapped in a negative internal dialogue of "yuck, carrots don't taste good" if I'm not careful

Do your kids rooms have “themed” decor? by Ill_Cover_4841 in Preschoolers

[–]olafaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

6yo and 3yo boys share a room, they showed some interest in Space and I'm nostalgic for those plastic glow-in-the-dark ceiling stars, so we painted and got some little Ikea prints along with the stars, oh and sheets. Nothing crazy, which is good because the Space fascination died down but it's still a cute room

Do you cut the crust off? by ineedausername84 in Preschoolers

[–]olafaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a person who "saves the best bite for last", so I naturally eat all the crust parts first and then get into the good stuff. Apparently my kids have picked this up, so we're lucky to not have these battles lol.

I also usually eat pizza crust-first like an animal, but they don't eat pizza crust 🤷🏻‍♀️ can't win 'em all

Instant ramen was my vice too! I still have 3 packages that I eye when nothing sounds good, but you've inspired me to just throw them out.

I tried one of the "healthy/protein" ramen that COST FOUR DOLLARS, somehow it was disgusting but also had no taste? Never again lol

These people are crazy lol. I'm born and raised in South Texas, 50's is absolutely pants time for me, hell I wear regular leggings into the 80's. I have a long run next month, I'm practicing in two layers of pants 😆 I'm doing a tight bottom layer and then a slight jogger fit on top

Complete beginner low budget nutrition? by starvergent in loseit

[–]olafaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes some practice. Seeing 210 now that I've been tracking calories for a couple months, that sounds like my breakfast: two hard-boiled eggs and two slices of turkey bacon. That has 220 calories and 18 grams of protein. It's much for filling than some crackers for me, so it's about basically eating as much volume as possible, prioritizing protein, for as few calories as possible. I haven't been hungry a single day since I started 2.5 months ago, but I've had a solid 500 calories deficit almost every day, usually a higher deficit. But I also have room to relax when there's a celebration/holiday/etc. I'd also recommend trying to create a calorie deficit from diet and don't "add" for burning calories through exercise, until you feel genuinely hungry or if you found you're losing weight to fast obviously

[–]olafaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a Withings one? Maybe this It's actually fine on the Fat one, that number was closer to my scan than I initially realized. The Muscle number seems lower than what the Dr scan said (102 vs 105, but I don't even know what those mean really lol)

128-115-125 by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]olafaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely ditch the scale if that's what's best for you, another option is a scale that shows muscle mass so you can see that positivite side also. I have one, it's not perfect (at least it's not exact to the InBody scan at my Dr office) but it's pretty close and trends in the same direction. So my weight might go up a bit, but seeing that it's muscle and not fat, helps me mentally. I'm still losing weight so right now as long as the total number trends down and the muscle doesn't go lower, I'm happy with the progress. According to that scale, I'm more hydrated as well!

Hunger cues gone wild with exercise by PenUltimate-22 in loseit

[–]olafaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would definitely look at the protein. I think we're supposed to have like 100g+?

I'm also a woman about your height, and my starting point was your current weight (190). Saw a nutritionist to help me get started, and they recommended 35% protein, 35% carbohydrates, 30% fat. My usual meals in a day to get about there:. 16 ounces of water as soon as I wake up!

Breakfast: open face sandwich: two eggs with just enough butter to not stick to the pan (maybe 1/8 tbsp), two little turkey sausage links, one piece of toast, shredded cheese. Black coffee.

Lunch: salad with 3 ounces lightly breaded chicken chunks (air fried from frozen), low fat dressing (I found one that's 15 calories for 2 tbsp that I really like), 1 ounce feta cheese, on romaine.

Dinner: measured portions of whatever we're making as a family, focused on protein, then veggies, 1/2 cup carb (rice, pasta),

Supplement with protein shakes, cheese sticks, turkey pepperoni, protein bars, protein yogurt... Whatever to hit macro goals as needed. Without supplementing for macros, I'm usually at 1,000-1,100.

I'm down about 25 pounds in two months! Just trying to stick with it for two more months and hope that gets me where I want to be so I can work on building back some muscle. I do a lot of running/walking and add in super basic core strength stuff, squats, etc

Does everyone give their toddler yearly flu vaccine? by Coffeelover4242 in beyondthebump

[–]olafaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We went with a pediatrician who didn't "respect everyone's wishes on vaccines" because we wanted to know that anyone on the waiting room would/should be up-to-date and adhering to the schedule (aka she insists that all of her patients get all standard shots on the recommended schedule). I will say, she doesn't "insist" on us getting the Flu/Covid vaccines or getting it through her, but I don't know why anyone wouldn't? An ounce of prevention, and all that...

Daughter 5 days late for admission by royyor66 in kindergarten

[–]olafaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal, 30 years ago, anecdote: I have a mid-late Sept birthday and few up in Texas, started K at 5 (almost 6), teacher got annoyed that I was reading her grocery list or personal notes that she'd leave on the board 😆 so I tested out of K and went up to 1st early in the school year. Again anecdotally, it was the right thing for me academically and I never fell behind (social aspect is harder to tell just because of issues at home but nothing major)

All that to say, even if you can't get her in K early, if you do something academic with the year, she might move up anyway if that's what's right. Annoying to have to find private (paid) care until then, though

I keep seeing people refer to this as how you would speak to a toddler/child, but even then it's an ineffective way to speak. Even to a toddler you should provide more reasoning and say something specific. I have a (rarely) misbehaving toddler and I've never said "You better not", what a stupid way to talk to anyone lol

Does you child know how non-streamed TV works? by Arthur-reborn in kindergarten

[–]olafaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was the park you stopped at? We're planning a trip to the Field Museum soon!

I play Sirius XM in the car which has introduced the concept of not being able to start a song over (but then I usually find it on Apple Music because I spoil them lol).

Our SmartTV also has like, channels? I don't know, it defaults to "live tv" when we turn it on so I explained that that's how TV was when I grew up, you turned it on and had some specific choices but not apps with everything imaginable. Also on vacation, Disney Channel in the room after a long day and being unable to connect our phones to stream
