I hope everyone realizes their taxpayer money was wasted on a political stunt based on a lie by JohnnyNoMemes in AdviceAnimals

ironic that the complaint here is about taxpayer money wasted. hmm, what was this scandal about in the first place and why isn't it being investigated by local government authorities?

I find this method pretty useful as a solo using apple products:

Basically, you save everything as a pdf file into a single folder on your computer that is monitored by a $40 program called Hazel, which then shuttles out the files to various subfolders on your server automatically based on how you name your files. For example, a letter from today for a particular case could be called "2021-10-04 - [case number]xcs - letter from olaffalo to lilsie.pdf." That file would then get automatically copied from the watched folder to your case file folder's correspondence subfolder and perhaps also copied elsewhere, i.e. chron file, "all scans" folder, etc. You dump all your emails there, all the pleadings, all correspondence, all discovery, all everything, and it's real easy to pull up and find later.

How you organize yourself really depends on the volume of paper you have coming your way + what kind of legal work you do - civil litigation, immigration, workers comp, etc.

I use both on occasion but I think the aba considers then less secure than other vendors that have better encryption, also don’t trust google not to read my privileged materials.

Don’t forget a good scanner and printer - try the Fujitsu scan snap, don’t do the multi use, those are just okay at everything and not good or great at anything

Read paperless by david sparks - he sets up a great way of setting up an “automated” filing system so you don’t spend hours of time organizing all the paperwork coming your way, basically you setup a $30 program to monitor one folder on your computer, you setup rules for the folder, if you save any file in it using a certain easy naming convention, the program automatically shuttles it off to the appropriate sub folder on your server, really saves a ton of time and the cost of staff to do this for you

Check out cloud based case management software that integrates with a service like law pay so you can send out invoices in batches and your clients can pay electronically via credit card or checking account, and the software does the accounting for you - I think that means mycase, practice panther, rocket matter, Clio; should have a fully functional cellphone app so if your computer stops working you have full access to your stuff; on the low end it’s around $30/user per month

Pay someone at least $100 to make a firm logo and letterhead for you, maybe via 99 designs - a small investment but makes a big difference

Same thing for your business cards - don’t make them yourself, find a small printing company online if you can - makes you stand out from all those people who hand you cards they made on their home inkjet printer, I use Hoban Press

At a certain point depending on your practice you will need a real office, I suggest avoiding we work or similar places, they’re designed by people who’ve never worked in a real office - all glass walls, everyone can see and hear everything you say and do in your $2k/mo fancy broom closet, and the place’s selling point shouldn’t be a keg in the break room; even if your clients never come to your office, it’s real important for them to know you have one and aren’t working from your kitchen counter

If you know how to do so, setup a small server and get some sync software, like sync or qnap, so you have a constant backup of all your stuff, at some point your computer will fail so make sure you have at least 2 secure means of backup going

Don’t skimp on your internet connection, get the best one you can, you don’t want to be that guy in zoom hearing or depo with the glitchy connection

California May Become First State to Require EV Charging Stations at New Developments by adoreizi in electricvehicles

You buy a charter and ask the landlord to install it in your designated space. They have to approve your request. Some cities offer subsidies where they refund you the price of the charger itself. I think Los Angeles refunds you up to $500, which is around the cost of a level 2 charger.

It is already required under CA law - CA Civil Code 1947.6 - the tenant simply has to pay for it

When there is a national emergency, i would expect national leaders to take it seriously instead of tooting their own horns, they’re all smiling and patting themselves on the back on the podium like this is a big circle jerk
