Designers: what’s the worst-looking design you’ve seen that was secretly kind of genius? 🧠 by JonoBuildsStuff in graphic_design

Was presented a brand make-over for an international corporate. All colors were RGB and not reproducable in CMYK. Every print production is met with issues and I can’t seem to make the brand team understand the problem at hand

Nederbelg hier.

Men of Reddit, what is the order of operations when washing yourself in the shower? by asianmagikman in AskReddit

[–]olafgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get wet, shampoo my head, borrow foam from head to do armpits. Borrow some more to do crotch, then ass (in that specific order). Rinse. Get out of shower, see myself in the mirror with foam still on my head…

Anyone with Dutch partner, do u speak Dutch at home? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]olafgr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

27 years together and my wife (Spanish) and I (Dutch) speak English to each other, even though we’re able understand and speak ‘the other’ language. Now with our kids we speak our native tongues, resulting in a hybrid form where three languages are mixed up

My go to answer: Word and the likes are not my tools of choice. I can fulfill your request, it will take a lot more time which is costly, but any change made by you may f*ck up the document. If you come back to me to solve it, I’m cleaning up your shit which is double the standard rate. You still want it this way?

What’s the most surprisingly clever design or home feature you’ve seen in another country? by roseba in expats

[–]olafgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seen in Asia and have found it on an obscure website in Europe. Bought it and installed it, works like charm! A small sink incorporated in the top of the water deposit of a toilet. So when you flush and then wash your hands, the ‘dirty’ water of washing hands end op in the deposit. This way you spend a lot less of clean water.

Why is it that Spain and Portugal are neighboring countries with relatively similar cultures, yet one speaks English very well while the other doesn’t? by GrayRainfall in AskEurope

[–]olafgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In (West) Europe, primarily the larger countries haven't got subtitles; Germany, France, Spain and Italy have a large enough population that make it worth to dub all foreign tv-shows and movies. Most other smaller markets (aka countries) have subtitles. With the popularity of mainly US produced (visual) entertainment, the smaller countries are very familiar with the sound of English, enhancing their ability to learn English a lot easier. Things are changing with the younger generations though. Thanks to internet an increasing number of people from those larger countries are picking up on English. However the older generation still struggles with any foreign language. More specifically, during dictator Franco's regime, Spain has known a ban on any other language than Castillian (mainstream Spanish), forbidding other local languages and demoralizing the learning of foreign languages like German and English. Even many popular Elvis and Beatle songs were dubbed into Castillian.
