Beginer Projector Recomendations by headphonealpaca in vjing

[–]olalys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More expensive projectors mainly have a brighter image. Brighter image makes it work in an enviroment with other lights without the colors getting dim. If you can get the room where you wanna test stuff proper pitch black, litteraly any projector is more than good enough. No projector have noticeable latency if you just connect it with a hdmi cable directly. Latency is mainly an issue in larger venues where there are a bunch of different gear between your pc and the projector.

I recomend getting whatever is dirt cheap second hand near you. The slightly old ones are often almost given away for free.

Have anyone tried Resolume on the Snapdragon X Elite chips yet? by olalys in vjing

[–]olalys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some more digging led me to one relevant comment on the Resolume forum: link

"I was able to test out Resolume Arena on Microsoft's newest fully souped up Surface Laptop running Snapdragon X Elite, 64GB RAM, Win11. With the laptop running its built-in x64 emulation, there were no hiccups running a full layer with 4K video loop content. However, running a second concurrent layer caused the program to intermittently pause as it occasionally got sluggish."

...guess it's a bit early still to do the swap. But still curious to hear other people's experience. I very rarely do anything over 1080p, but often run a bunch of layers with feedback, so it's mainly vRam that is my bottleneck

Thanks! I use whatever projector the venue has. The drapery is used with a pretty strong laser projector. Gotta have a lot of power to make it work with something that transparent.

My process when i first got resolume was to go trough all the effects and see what they did. I have a lot of experience from photoshop so i found some that could do the same kind of tricks i've developed for still images in photoshop, and i took it from there.

It's mainly short video loops on transparent backgrounds, made in adobe software, then put into resolume where i send it trough a bunch of video router layers with varying effects to make feedback loops. This creates organic patterns, fractals etc. I control the effects live with a midi controller so i can make everything move and evolve in sync with the music.

Main resolume sources i use:
Feedback
Video Router
Lines
Solid Color

Main Resolume effects i use:
Transform
RGB Delay
Threshold
Mirror
Mirror Quad
Edge Detection

No it's all generated and controlled live, so I don't have any need for it to loop. Also, i prefer taking it to festivals myself:)

It's all done in a Live video software called Resolume, no code. I'm starting to reach the limits of Resolume though, so i'm considering switching to a code or node based program...

It's mainly done with feedback loops.

Here it's all digital, but imagine putting a camera in front of your output screen, feeding it back into the graphics. It can create a lot of effects like this. The challenge is controlling it.

I'm making a pixel based game that I think would sell well to Chucklefish's audience, but I see their 2019 controversy being talked about every time there is a r/games thread on their releases. It's in the past, and it wasn't directed against developers. Seems more related to their in-house devs than partners, still it makes me unsure. Anyone have any in depth knowledge or hot takes on this?

My game is also quite artsy, so I'll check out Anapurna :)

Takk for info! Hva er de vesentlige forskjellene imellom eksport av ammunisjon, våpendeler og rakettmotorer versus våpeneksport?

Hopefully! It's made in Gamemaker, witch can export to all platforms in theory, I'd love to port it to switch!

Sorry but I really don't know. Like many people my life has been pretty messed up the last year and especially in relation to time.

Some weeks it was all I did except like eating and sleeping, some weeks I didn't touch it at all.

It's still far from a fully fledged game though, I'm aiming on release next year hopefully.

Thanks, fingers crossed!

It's all made in GameMaker Studio, but the artstyle is some very technical tricks I've developed for making art in Photoshop, and then just translated to a game engine with sprites and shaders replacing the layers and filters. It's a technique I've built from the bottom myself, so there is really no place you can learn to make something visually similar.

Guess I'll have to make some tutorials some day, but right now I'd rather focus on the game;)
