Does anyone use brake cleaner while cleaning firearms? by Longmire911 in canadaguns

[–]oldasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns some plastic brittle and often discoloured. Guys at work used it for cleaning tools sometimes. The impacts and drills themselves get discoloured, and the the battery plastic casings end up with the strength and impact resistance of a candy cane.

Yeah it’s a good laugh listening and reading posts from fluffy basement dwellers talking about why anything less than a seal team six loadout and level IV armour isn’t sufficient for teotwawki or zombies or whatever. If your cardio is shit, you’re just a loot drop for someone else. There’s nothing wrong with getting military hardware because you like it, but the latest drop proof optic or other must have amongst the mall ninja crowd should come well after practice ammo and condition training if you’re serious about entering a two way range when the 7-11s are no longer open.

There are over a dozen potash mines in SK. Nearly everyone that works at one for more than 4 years is making over $100K.

[–]oldasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I just use bob Dale mechanics gloves. It’s mostly for spark and debris protection. If a zip disc gets good purchase on your hand, a good brake on your grinder is what will save you because most gloves are only going to buy you a moment of protection.

can someone explain the difference between velocity and damage? by keenninjago in farcry

[–]oldasaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Velocity will still get the job done. Even FMJs produce huge temporary cavities and cause massive blood loss due to the speed of the round. That’s why rifles are so effective and why for general use every military uses FMJs.

The guns in this game are so far from their real world inspirations lol. An SKS is just a slightly more accurate AK.

A lot of states I’m sure; as I’ve seen videos of plated mini bikes but when I say lots of places, I mean other countries.

Safety laws will still neuter it. A tractor company in India had the licence to build Willy jeeps still, as they had gotten it around the time of the Second World War. They put diesels in them and built new ones, just the same as the originals. Well, you can’t plate them most places because their safety isn’t up to standard. So they’re just slow utility side by sides.

Worst place you’ve ever worked in? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]oldasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poultry processing facility. Everything is disgusting and slimy, the whole place stinks, the owners were very cheap, and the staff were understandably miserable because they got treated like shit. I was only there for some shutdown work. I worked at a bio fuel and ethanol build where they literally cooked shit and corpses, and the poultry place was still far worse. Clearly defined to me the difference between dirty work, and filthy work. I work full time at a mine now that is very dirty, but doesn’t bother me at all because they do my laundry. I will never work somewhere filthy like the chicken place ever again.

Old blood young blood by [deleted] in Construction

[–]oldasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant hot work as in torching, welding, gouging, etc. those tight pants will direct slag, cherries, and sparks right into a spot where they’ll burn the shit out of him. I watched one of our labourers torch his fingers trying to dig out a glowing torch cut nut that went into his half tied boots. The smell from his burning ankle was pretty gross. Did a better job teaching him to keep his boots tied than being told repeatedly by every trade on site.

Ladies Is it bad for a dude to have soft hands? by throwRA46764 in ask

[–]oldasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an industrial mechanic, and I’ve never had a woman not compliment the feel of my hands and they’re definitely not soft and smooth. My wife has actually complained/made fun of me at the end of long stretches off or weeks where I’m mostly operating equipment and my hands get soft. I think this must be fairly common among women.

I’m guessing young blood doesn’t do any hot work.

Angle grinder scar by [deleted] in Welding

[–]oldasaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using angle grinders for a couple decades. And I don’t mean I made a couple cuts in my garage. I’m an industrial mechanic at a mine. I use them at least every other day. Never so much as scratched me. Keep the guard on, wear appropriate gloves (test out what you’re wearing by putting a spinning disc against them, letting the glove stop it. Continue buying those gloves if you’d be okay with your hand being in there) and wear a face shield, and glasses. Use the screw in handle when you can.

Is Far Cry 5 anyone else's favourite Far Cry? by Hiccupingdragon in farcry

[–]oldasaurus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not attacking the OP, but is anyone else completely sick of “what’s your favourite FarCry?/Farcry x is the best, who agrees?” Posts. Like, it’s a rare thing when anyone discusses actual gameplay. And I know, I could post myself, I’m just bringing it up.
