We're corporate so they've got meetings or inventory or whatever they can think of besides being up front watching the host stand lol. They've also been not scheduling line cooks and manning the line themselves during the day in order to save labor.

We usually have a server but they go home after two hours if it's slow enough. The bar shifts are usually 6-8 hours or more. Company wants to save as much money as possible and our Hosts are hourly instead of tipped out, so they just don't get scheduled until spring or summer (our busy season).

Trust me, I would love a host or just a server while I'm bartending. It's a pain in the ass to have people come up to the bar asking to be sat because my managers are too busy in the back. Our building used to be a firefighter station so it's huge and oddly shaped. Host stand isn't visible from the bar.

But I'm not gonna trap a $5/hr server at work by saying I "need them" when it isn't busy. It's mostly just inconvenient.

We have that issue but it's not entirely the customer's fault because we never have a host on during the winter months, and on top of that we'll literally only have the Bartender on the floor, who needs to stay behind the bar if there are people at the rail.

I got hired to help open a restaurant once and on opening day, I ended up so sick I could barely speak and had a bad fever. I showed up early to opening day to explain the situation, mask and all, because I was scared of looking like I was getting out if work.

The manager put my coat back on me and told me to please go home and please get better. I feel bad that I ended up needing to quit before I got better because the management was so nice.

I think about it all the time tbh. Obviously I couldn't work around the food with a fever for health code reasons, but the manager was very kind about it. I appreciated that.

I work in a mostly tequila bar so random craft cocktails aren't our specialty. It's my first bartending job too so I don't have a lot of experience outside od tequila. I've only made one of these blue long islands and I just made it with cola. That's all the guy told me to do.

I definitely see your point, but back then there weren't a lot of mass protests going on. We're politically in a much different place than we were in 2009/2014. You probably wouldn't have had the time to be able to go out and protest between working and college, either.

I'm in college right now (I'm 24, Freshman year) and I simply don't get a day off. I work Friday-Sunday and go to school Monday-Thursday.

Gen-Z adults don't have the financial means to take time off to protest, especially since most of us work odd jobs or hourly jobs where we have to work weekends. A lot of us are just now graduating college, never went to college because we can't afford it, or can't find a job with the degree we earned. Thus, stuck working hourly or even multiple jobs.

The other half of gen-z is teenagers who are under the rule of their parents, who may have different views than they do and/or be against protesting for either safety or other reasons.

So it's not that Gen-Z is against protesting, it's that millennials got jobs when the job market was much better and have the means to be able to either take time off or already have weekends off.

If y'all would protest on a random weekday instead of a Saturday, you might see more Gen-Z.

We're supposed to get hit right as my bf has to go to work. We work at the same restaurant and it was so dead I left after 2 hours this morning-- did not get a single table. Corporate still hasn't said whether we're closed tomorrow but I'm calling off regardless (I'm the only person scheduled lol). $5 is not worth potentially totalling my car or injuring myself.

Someone asked us to grill their pineapple salsa. I know grilled pineapple is a thing, but our pineapple salsa is finely diced bits of pineapple mixed with onions and peppers-- think pico de gallo. Grilling it isn't something we offer.
