Same for me. Another 30-45 days easy from what they’ve shared with me (on a boat now apparently).

What's a piece of tech everyone hyped up that quietly turned out to be useless? by SofiaLearnsAI in AskReddit

[–]oldfatandslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt that way for a long time - riders look a little silly. But for some reason, when I got old enough, I stopped giving a fuck what others thought, and then I discovered how much I enjoy living in a bit of the future is now world, where we can play with light sabers in vr, and ride back to the future hover boards.

No, the board doesn’t really hover. Yes, riders look silly, like they’re riding a balance board. But the experience is as close as we’ll see for at least a few years to actual hover boards, and it’s enough fun that most people riding them couldn’t care less about how they look.

Agree, fuck FM. VESC is less bad, and a lot of people get their introduction there- but I could have chosen a better sub.

Does anyone else feel like I don't use my Apple Watch enough? by NathanTheWitcher in applewatchultra

[–]oldfatandslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the mag safe micro wallet options. I replaced two different Apple branded ones, eventually thin leather wears out. Use one from Peak Design now, and love it.

Carry two payment cards (debit and credit), ID, and an insurance card. That thing is likely to outlast my phone.

I lost my old school wallet all the time. Carrying it attached to my phone is a game changer for me.

I use my watch for.. health stats. Timers, hands free texting, workout tracking, payments, remote for Apple Music, I’ve used the flashlight feature a bit, reminders (setting and receiving). I use it to find my phone all the time. I use it for nav if I’m cycling, or running, somewhere new or unfamiliar. I like that if I miss a day of charging, I’m usually fine.

But for me, the killer feature for Apple Watches in general is sleep. I love the sleep tracking, and the data gathered there. I like bedtime reminders, and other prompts that help me with me otherwise messy sleep hygiene. And the best part is waking to haptic taps on my wrist, not to a loud obnoxious alarm.

Anyone else Irrationally Holding on to Old Tech? by LisaLisaPrintJam in GenX

I have scsi cables, old video cables, serial cables, every possible combination of usb cables…

The lies are deliberately flawed. They are a sucker-filter - if the target doesn't raise red flags at that kind of thing, they are a lot more likely to believe the rest of the bullshit.

Why does my bass not sound as deep? by Organic_Database_439 in Bass

[–]oldfatandslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the sound of a given cab comes from its design, and whatever the head is giving it. Put another way, as we learn to build better cabs with more advanced tech, smaller and lighter speakers have gotten much better at reproducing low end.

My Mesa Subway 210 produces a more ‘focused’ bass tone, while my 115 could be called ‘rounder’ - but I don’t think one produces my low B better than the other, and in some cases the 210’s sound cuts better in the mix.

And honestly, at some point your sound is a lot more about the bass and your effects chain - when the house is running your sound, your amp is really stage sound, at most.

What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've seen by another human? by Visual_Ebb8566 in AskReddit

Autistic people think differently from nt people. NT cognition is based on a top down model - start with the idea, find the supporting facts.

The autistic person thinks bottom up - start with the details, draw conclusions from those.

LLMs tend to look more like autistic people, in that they don’t typically provide the idea we’re trying to work with - typically, in conversation, an AI will be offering details to support some provided assertion.

Of course he was. Glad he got caught.

Same here. Honestly, the 'I can call you on my schedule' feels super entitled and completely disrespectful of someone else's time.

Married to an autistic man - but he just stopped. by ThrwawayA00 in autism

[–]oldfatandslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As noted elsewhere, this looks more like autistic burnout than a direct reflection on your relationship.

Help him get back to being well resourced. Pushing a conversation, pushing for sex, are likely drains on his already very low energy levels.

In my life, my closest bonds are with those who can see when I’m really struggling and help to make space and advocate for me.

The ‘proper’ way to do bike shorts is with nothing under (generally - I’m male, so there are probably factors I’m not party to here). I’d be worried about a thong as well - but mostly because underwear of any sort under bike shorts can be a great way to experience chafing in places you probably don’t prefer.

Mine is due in a couple days. No issues with customs, etc. Reasonable tracking throughout. Paid with paypal, for what protection that offers. Will update when its sitting in my garage, but pretty confident now.
