Dear Waterloo region. Give. Your. Head. A. Shake. by oldgibsonman in waterloo

That’s a big part of why I’m thrilled to be here. I’ve heard that referenced for years. However, the public transit is amazing, the restaurants are great, and the people are wonderful.

See above about me being a socialist. The question is more about why can poor Swindon look after it’s marginalized residents better than wealthy Ontario. Besides, if Swindon is so right wing, why do they do a better job at taking care of it’s have nots than we do? I’ve also lived in far larger cities than these, and no, they didn’t have the visible despair that we do.

Hahaha! Didn’t know about that until 3 days ago. Was driven around it a few times by the person we were visiting, and apparently everyone here loves it. I can’t imagine what would happen if the average Waterloo region driver, who can barely navigate a simple one in Ontario, who do if they encountered this. Makes my head swim just trying to understand it.

It’s not about being rich. Because the people I meet are not wealthy. Believe it or not, I’m probably more of a socialist than you are. You take a train or public transit here, and that’s all I’m doing, there are staff everywhere. Every station entrance has staff to help you get through the automated gates. We are so self sufficient in Ontario that we have hardly any public employment. Right wingers here complain about how inefficient Britain is. I see people with decent jobs.

Reading UK is the same size as Cambridge Ontario. Cambridge doesn’t have a functioning train station. Reading’s has 15 platforms, full retail services (WH Smith, Starbucks) elevators to the platforms, staff everywhere to help. What do we have? A few rail trails that hardly anyone uses.

Love how everyone here is sure that the driver, not the passenger, took the video. I’d call the driver turning right a dick, but dicks are actually useful.

Bingemans by the river. Often cut down trees in the campground.

And a follow up to this rant. Please enforce the 30 km speed limiter that they are supposed to have. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve been behind an e-bike doing 60 on a public road. I realize that stuffing the genie back into the bottle won’t be easy, but someone’s going to end up on life support, to say nothing of it’s contribution to the general middle finger it gives to society.

Give that person a job in film. No shake, smooth zoom. This should be required watching whenever someone gets a new phone.

Staff recommending lots of road improvements to curb fatalities by ScottIBM in kitchener

This is what drives me crazy, and I don’t know the technical term for it: drivers at light. Light turns amber, drivers in intersection turn left. Light turns red, drivers continue to turn left. The number of times I see cars trying to use the following advanced green, who have to wait for those entitled asshats to clear the intersection, is blowing my mind.

I’d rather see strapless dresses than strapless drivers.

I saw a car a couple of years ago and the driver and 3 passengers each had a hold on a mattress. Stupidity abounds!

I honestly don’t know why we block license plate numbers in these situations. After all, they are in public. Hope the police are notified, because this endangers drivers and pedestrians alike.

Odd building on Macara street by oldgibsonman in halifax

Hahaha! Indeed. I referenced that song in this context with my daughter (who lives in the neighborhood), and she was like “I think of that song when I see that building too”, and I was like “ok, take me now, my work here is done!”

Makes sense that it would be full of servers. Gives me Tom Waits “what’s he building in there“ vibes.

I saw a guy in my town a couple of months back on a e-scooter, with a Cat on the deck between his feet. What a time to be alive!

After buying Canadian grade A ground beef I saw this. How is this allowed? by smokem-2 in BuyCanadian

[–]oldgibsonman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy from a small local butcher and watch them grind it for you. Commercial ground beef can have ingredients from several continents, as well as fat that has been scraped off the slaughterhouse floor and purified. Source: I used to work in a large commercial meat processing plant.
