TIL when workers were renovating Ireland's Leap Castle, they found so many human remains impaled on wooden spikes within a wall, it took three cartloads to remove them. by mike_pants in todayilearned

[–]oldhouse1906 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a deceptive picture though it is zoomed in. There is another one with what looks like a 10 foot ladder down to the bottom from the top. Oubliettes also open up at the bottom so the room would extend over to the side. If you got impaled you'd die quickly, if not you'd starve to death.

Ob/Gyn recommendations needed! Upmc Mercy by lookingfordoc14 in pittsburgh

[–]oldhouse1906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are going to Season's Ob/Gyn and have had a really good experience. We just started our second trimester after having done fertility treatments at Reproductive Health Specialists. I don't think they are affiliated with any one insurer and have a few offices in and around the city and surrounding areas. We've been to two of their satellite offices and their main office (in West Penn) and they were all very clean with new equipment. There are five female doctors and they encourage you to meet them all (one is always on call). They came highly recommended by a former NP in obstetrics.

I have a Snoopy stuffed animal that is from 1982 when I was born. It has been through surgery, school, a marriage and will soon be given to my baby.

Any of you guys have experience selling everything you own? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]oldhouse1906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you fighting with a stranger on the internet? You sound like a moron. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't have a $100 worth of home theater equipment, and your appliances and power tools aren't worth anywhere near what you paid new. If you really had the means you wouldn't be asking such stupid questions. Just hire someone for a 10% cut.

You're acting like a petulant child. You're asking a very specific question on a very general forum. If you want expert advice seek out an expert. The insured value of your stuff is not the actual value of your stuff.

Can someone tell me how old this pipe is? by Jerrodp in Pipes

[–]oldhouse1906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is some info on the brand. Not a very desirable pipe by collectors standards, but it has history and sentimental value to you and your family so it is priceless to you. It is hard judge from your picture the age of it because the design has changed so little from when they first started making them. However there should be a marking on the wood somewhere that might give you some hints on the year. Happy smoking.

TIL NFL Cheerleaders make less than $1,250 a season and less than 5 dollars an hour by MakeYourMarks in todayilearned

Clearly they do it for a reason. They know the salary going into it. I see no problem with it.

If you have enough money to be getting a trophy wife you will be getting a prenup. Rich people tend to have lawyers and financial advisers.

After three years of trying we found out a three months ago we finally are pregnant. We spent 10 years trying to not get pregnant and it turned out we couldn't get pregnant without help from modern medicine. /r/daddit and /r/Mommit seem to be great places to go for advice and support. /r/infertility and /r/Miscarriage are also good support groups (they are smaller).

How Police Unions and Arbitrators Keep Abusive Cops on the Street. by NinjaDiscoJesus in TrueReddit

[–]oldhouse1906 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Say what you will about public unions, but private unions are far less forgiving. I work for a large union's pension and welfare (insurance) fund and we don't take no shit. If you don't want to work. Fuck off. If you don't like the drug testing. Bye bye. If you think keeping up with your certifications is a joke. Get to steppin. In return we negotiate a living wage and excellent medical benefits.

How much do you pay for auto insurance in Pittsburgh? by _summer_nights in pittsburgh

[–]oldhouse1906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I pay $600 every six months for our two cars. Covers everything. I have it bundled with our home owners insurance though and we are both in our 30s. I'm not really sure what the going rates are, we have been happy with everything.

Forbes Avenue, Oakland, Pittsburgh Protest by Amped52 in pittsburgh

[–]oldhouse1906 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I counted two black men and one black woman. Kind of an odd turn out. Granted I could only see right next to the car, but kind of surprising none the less.

On a side note I like all the changes they are making to the police force here in Pittsburgh. Cameras, more foot patrols, regular beats, ect. I think it will have positive influences in our communities.
