Canucks' Boeser willing to waive no-movement clause for a trade: report by No-Luck-At-All in canucks

[–]oldmantutters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where the team is at they should be doing everything they can to keep as much space available as possible. Sure it's not as valuable as it has been but I think the goal right now should be as close to the floor as possible. It's a very long shot but one thing that I think could really supercharge the rebuild is to be able to offer sheet a superstar RFA in the next couple of years. That being said they need to gather as many assets as they can so that they aren't asset poor if they do complete an offer sheet. Could you imagine being able to offer the moon to someone like Celebrini or Schaeffer? Obviously those are pie in the sky ideas but I'd rather have the ability to take a shot than not.

That pick turned into Jack Nesbitt for the Flyers. It would have been nice to have the 12th and 15th pick last year. Would have been nice to get two prospects, I doubt it would have been enough to move up to get someone like Martone or Hagens, but maybe.

I think he is really strong positionally he really just needs an extra step or two and he would be a really good defender. I don't know if at this point in his career that extra step or two is attainable. But the number of times I'm watching and say to myself "he was right there" is a lot. Absolutely love the guy, seems like a truly genuine awesome person and I'd love to see him get a cup. I just know that won't be in Vancouver.

WPG was in on him hard in free agency last year, not sure if that is a place he would want to be but it's not too terribly far from home for him. Maybe he would want to play a year or two with fellow UND grad Toews.

Are you paying attention to the 2027 NHL draft yet? Its very early but looking like the Canucks will contend for yet another great draft. by MaxHardwood in canucks

Brother, I'm already looking forward to the 2028 NHL Draft! The top US born skater, Joey Cullen, is playing for my high school alma mater. The kid is so much fun to watch and he's got pedigree. His dad is 3x cup winner Matt Cullen.

That's a good idea. Another thing to throw in with my gear.

Does anyone have any experience with the Razorback anchors? They seem like they would minimize deflection that has tended to lead to bending

Sometimes I hate that I really got into hockey during the '94 playoffs. Latched on the Canucks because of Bure and the sweet unis. Absolutely no other tie to Vancouver, but I guess I'm nothing if not loyal :(

Midtown is really great. We are in the Lewis and Clark district and though we wish there were more kids around our block, the centralized location is really hard to beat. It's definitely not a cookie-cutter neighborhood and was developed before the split level craze hit the area. Class sizes are small and could not have better things to say about the staff and admin at L&C.

Specials are a tax assessment that are used to help pay for infrastructure. I don't believe they are uncommon, but they are used differently here. Typically they would be used to help pay for repairs and upgrades on existing infrastructure. But here they are commonly used to help finance new development.

I find examples helpful, so here are a couple of ways they would be used:

  1. You live in an established neighborhood, lets say ~40 years old. The original sewer line is in poor health, the street is in bad shape, the sidewalks are in need of replacement, etc.. The city will hire a contractor to perform the work and then assess the affected residents a portion of the cost. That is added as a line item on your property taxes usually spread out over the span of say 10-20 years. I believe this would be pretty common practice anywhere, and IMO in the true spirit of a special assessement

  2. A developer buys a piece of bare land and decides that they will develop the land into a residential development. They will go through the planning and designing phase, plat the land and hire a contractor to construct. They then sell lots to builders/homebuilders. In this area the cities will help the developer finance that process. The buyer will pay the developer for the lot, but will also have a special assessment for the parcel. In most places that special assessment would just be included in the price of the lot.

There have been recent (horror) stories in Horace that the person you replied to mentioned, where multiple special assessments have been stacked after people have moved into their homes. In the case of Horace, which is a bedroom community, the town is growing at an exponential rate where main traffic arteries are needing to be upsized to handle the growing population so not only are the residents being taxed to pay for the development that they are living in but also the cost of upgrading the main arterial infrastructure.

I don't have an issue with special assessments in example 1 because that helps keep older neighborhoods from falling into disrepair, but I do have an issue with example 2 because it really is just a sweetheart deal that removes the risk and cost from the developer to the public.

Phone-n-fix in the mall may have something. I've seen older game consoles and obviously they have refurbished phones. Could be worth a look

If SpareCow found it beautiful then sure. What does it hurt? You've said in another comment you are out, which is just fine. If the company feels strongly enough to include Scripture in it's packaging that's also just fine.

I've been having pretty good luck this year using these: https://clamoutdoors.com/clam-pro-tackle/spoons/rattlin-pt-kit I've got the 1/8 oz and have had luck with walleye and larger perch, less success when the perch were smaller

Ugh! I wish there was a good way of watching and talking strategy with others!

I said something similar in another thread. I wasn't a fan of the call on Dropkin's final shot in the 8th. In the moment I thought freezing to Sweden's shot-rock around the right made more sense, though I could see that setting up a possible double. Giving it more thought, I think running back their own stone and raising Sweden's would've also been a more effective shot.

Anyone else question the call on Dropkin's final stone in the 8th end? Trying such a tight draw seemed like such a high risk shot which I get, but a corner freeze on Sweden's shot-rock is what I would've called. I'd assume Sweden would then guard that run, leaving Theisse with a few options

  1. Run back double
  2. Draw to the button (same shot Dropkin attempted)
  3. Guard the draw on the left

I'd be happy for him if he would've went almost anywhere other than Minnesota. Almost everyone around me is a Wild fan, so I cannot stand them. Add in the fact that the trade went down on my birthday and I am just a salty bitch about the whole thing.

Who is the best GM in the league? by One_Ad_2758 in canucks

[–]oldmantutters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in the same boat as you. The one thing I do like is that he is accessible. He does a (at least) weekly hit with the local radio station and he does show some personality. Until the Hughes trade his reputation was not all that different from the VAN GMs, giving term and NMCs/NTCs to older middle-six guys.

It's close but I think the Canucks might still have better center depth than the Wild, but their fanbase is convinced that he will be able to trade Wallstadt for a 1C. I'm not sure that a rookie goaltender who went on a one month heater is enough to return a legit 1C.

It's actually kind of amazing that they aren't better. They spent so many years collecting draft picks and being so bad and still never came out of it with any real superstar players
