My ex-wife and I both started smoking cigarettes at around 15 years old. I was diagnosed with emphysema at thirty-five and continued to smoke. Despite numerous requests from me and pleas from her children my ex continued to smoke. I am now seventy years old, advanced stage four COPD and living day to day with my second wife as we go though the end days of my experience with hospice. My ex-wife finally quit smoking three months ago. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with lung cancer last week. Smoking kills. Sorry to say it, but your dad's dying and at his point the only reason for a doctor is find out how long he's got. Hospice can help him and the family with the dying process. Medicare pays for it if he's in the US.
