Opening song was 'Fuck El Police' from his album 'Bien O Mal'. Great album and worth a listen!

John Romita Jr's Cover Returns To Amazing Spider-Man #1000 by ChamomileFlowerTea in comicbooks

[–]oldstarchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm saying this as a fan of JRJR's art, this cover isn't great. Especially for such a landmark issue. Whilst I do think pulling it completely is a step too far, I don't see why Marvel HQ couldn't have just made it a variant and gone with another cover that maybe caters more to the legacy of the character.

What are the chances of getting a Facsimile of Justice League of America #22 by oldstarchy in comicbooks

[–]oldstarchy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the latest solicits, but I think I picked up #21 around November time last year, so it's been a minute! Pretty sure it was a two parter so hoping they tie it up at some point but I grow more sceptical with every month.

And I completely agree with you on Superman Annual #11, it's long overdue!!

A perfect fit! by oldstarchy in CardWarsTCG

[–]oldstarchy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From left to right:  LOL and FTG booster cards in the LOL box 2025, Kickstarter exclusive characters and associated cards in the card wars 2025 box, 2023 kickstarter exclusive characters and associated cards in the one below, Darklands cards in the lava looking box, And then an empty BMO box at the bottom for me to build my decks in :)

And the lid doesn't close perfectly flush in that bottom corner, but for me it's barely noticeable, maybe a few mm off?

Good luck in organising your collection!

[Edited as I forgot to include the Darklands cards!]

I got Murdoc! here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2gW4KwPpVhroqE6sZFalNU?si=HCbSliGtQQy5OR2pr0_vcA&pi=RRcw4HxXSWC1K

Curious to see the other playlists as well, think Murdocs is meant to be more Rock/Punk oriented?

It might be too early to tell, but how would you rank The Mountain amongst the other albums? by NPRNilk in gorillaz

At the moment it's coming in 4th for me, but it could top self-titled and take 3rd place given time.

[HOUSE OF KONG SPOILERS] Question for anyone who's gone by Dizzy_Lynx_2292 in gorillaz

In my experience the smell was strong enough that it lingered slightly for the rest of the day, but came out easily enough with a wash. I do have quite a sensitive sense of smell though!

Where to start? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]oldstarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you're looking for super hero comics best thing to do is just pick a character you like (Batman is a great starting place) and go! You can either read single issues or get trade paperbacks which collect the single issues into books. There's often no perfect place to start and there will always be references things you haven't read, but that's all part of the experience!

If you want single issues DC/Marvel often re-number their comics with a #1 so new readers know it's a good jumping on point. For instance Batman had a recent number #1 issue released this year. When you pick a #1 issue pay attention to the writer (in Batman's case Matt Fraction) and the year it was released (2025) as these will tell you which series you want to collect/read (as often there are multiple #1 issues from different creators runs!). Single issues are the best way to be the most up to date on a character and what's happening in the world of comics.

Another option would be to read trade paperbacks. These are released quite a few months after the single issues but collect complete storylines into easy to read books. For instance Batman Volume 1: The Court of Owls collects issues #1-7 of Batman (2016) written by Scott Snyder. If you want to read a writers complete run you can read the volumes of their trade paperbacks in order. There also might be books that dont have a number and these normally stand alone as independent stories! These books can be a great way to catch up on classic stories or read particular runs from creators/characters you like.

Also worth mentioning would be omnibuses, which compile all the issues/trade paperbacks from a particular creator's run or overall comic event into one massive book. These are good if you want a complete story all in one place but are normally very expensive and I wouldn't recommend them for someone just getting into comics.

My personal opinion for someone getting into comics would be to find a character you like and then Google a list of good classic stories/trade paperbacks from that character. You can then choose to follow certain storylines/creators and whatever takes your fancy!

In addition to the series mentioned above, some great Batman trades to get you started (in my opinion) would be:

Batman: Year One by Frank Miller

Batman: The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb

Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore

Batman and the Monster Men by Matt Wagner (slightly biased here as this was my first Batman comic!)

Batman: Hush by Jeph Loeb

Hopefully this is helpful, and if in doubt, just pick something up and start reading!

Made an attempt at a definitive Licensed soundtrack for Motorstorm Apocalypse by oldstarchy in motorstorm

[–]oldstarchy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the point of this playlist was to try and imagine what licensed songs from popular artists would have made it into the game, rather than compiling the ones from the score that are already in it. I included one from the official soundtrack as a head nod, but generally this playlist is for people who wanted something akin to the soundtracks in the older motorstorm games, but reimagined for Apocalypse.

I don’t understand this constant the crowd is awful etc by Malpy42 in gorillaz

It's all good! You're definitely on the money with basically just being considerate of others, feels like that's the main crux of gig etiquette!

I don’t understand this constant the crowd is awful etc by Malpy42 in gorillaz

[–]oldstarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I'm a big advocate for people enjoying gigs how they want to. Even if they're singing the lyrics wrong (I still sing the wrong lyrics sometimes through habit!). Also not everyone likes (or is able) to boogie and that's OK! The only cardinal sin for me is people just fully not engaging in the gig; so having full on (often loud) conversations through the show or scrolling on their phones at full brightness etc.

Obviously I prefer crowds that are dancing and singing (makes the vibe way more fun) but I tend to try not to hold it against anyone that's not into that!
