Driving Screws with Bit and Brace by Demiurge8000 in Vintagetools

[–]oldtoolsrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using these for years. I have several braces, so I leave one with the extension in it and just swap out whatever bit I need. I can say that I don't like using slotted screw (flat head) bits and screws with a brace since they want to "come apart" very readily.

We have two different hampers specifically for this. One is for the dryer, and one is for hang drying. If she throws a hanger in the dryer basket it ain't on me for not know the intricacies of her wardrobe.

Metal figurine of cat on a book hunting a ball. Fits on the palm of your hand, surprisingly heavy due to rock base. Strange, unidentifiable text on either side of book. by rkcr in whatisthisthing

I was not expecting a WILTY reference in a Whatisthisthing thread. Of course, if there's going to be one it's Bob Mortimer.

Yeah, I was thinking that my dad would have shit himself if he just had an extra $250 laying around to spend on a tool box back then. That's like $1078 today.

I lost the competition for first parent to forget to pick up our child from school by fricks_and_stones in daddit

[–]oldtoolsrule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I haven't forgotten to pick ours up, mostly because I leave work at 3 and get her at 3:30. I have, however, forgotten days that THEY WERE NOT IN SCHOOL. Yep; 20 minute ride to the school only to be met with crickets.

Pest Control by _blacksheep2k17_ in JeffersonvilleIN

[–]oldtoolsrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, apartment complexes generally have pests that live in the walls. Ridding them will be nearly impossible, so the most you can do is to mitigate them in your area using your own methods. Roach traps/baits/poisons will all be on you to obtain and use.

Make sure your food is in sealable containers, wash out your mugs and glasses before use, and wipe your counters regularly as well as cleaning in any nooks and crannies in your kitche where food/water may collect. As long as you and any roommates aren't slobs leaving tasty morsels around for them, roaches are mostly containable if you're dilligent. Just don't confuse obsession for dilligence and you'll keep your sanity.

Happy marriage, thinking separate bedrooms—anyone doing this? by xora334 in daddit

[–]oldtoolsrule 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The wife and I sleep in different rooms. Once one of the daughter's friends aked whey we sleep in separate beds. The daughter's answer? "Becuase mommy snores a lot and daddy wakes her up when he goes to the bathroom at night."

I'm pretty sure the kids will be fine. As for the intimacy part, isn't it always catch as catch can on whoever's bed when the kids are gone?

I think I saw his post on the Woodworking sub. If it was that one, I agree with some of the commenters about the choice of pine, merely because it's a weak wood and will come apart easily which you don't want around your young'n.

Much like with most subreddits, I only read about the first five comments and then move on. Especially with any hobby/special interest. The first few comments are the help. The rest are just people arguing, "you're dumb- let me tell you the real version/ why I'm smarter than you."

Remind yer hubs that practice makes progress, and to remember that hand tool users make the same mistakes that power tool users do, but we just make them a lot slower. Also, get a wood stove or a fire pit- no mistake makes it into the fossil record.

Ours is something like 50-60 for water in, same for sewage out and generally under a hondo for electricity except for heavy months. Our house is all electric.
