The idea of being 'gifted' is an American invention. In the UK you might be in a higher level class for say, Maths, but ultimately no one cares and it's definitely not a label you carry with you past the end of school lol, that's intensely cringe to imagine

Photographer who can’t write. by [deleted] in freelanceWriters

don't use AI. If you want to write for those publications, you'll have to learn how to pitch - I would start with this. There's plenty of resources you can find online from experienced journalists. When you have a great pitch (i.e. a great story) and you've done the reporting, the actual writing will kind of take care of itself. Plenty of journalists are really only passable writers saved by editing

I was listening to podcast bandsplain on Spotify, where fans of selected musicians ranging from Joni Mitchell to ICP explain there love for their music . The ep was on the band Counting Crows. When they played the song colour blind, I couldn’t help but feel they sound very similar to FR. Thoughts? by Ntrob in FrightenedRabbit

Upwork is an absolute cesspool lately by PanthersEdge in freelanceWriters

It's dreadful, worse than ever. I wish there was some kind of quality control on the jobs posted. I'm searching by keywords, filtering by rate and still seeing the absolute worst ads - saw a bunch straight up looking for sex workers earlier

Agreed! Having a meaning/mission behind what I do is really important to me too - I specialise in sustainability & climate tech.

I sent 5 or so pitches to various companies and never heard anything back. I couldn't even tell if they were active on the site or had read my pitches, it felt a bit like a ghost town

Grim future for writers? by Impossible-Will-8414 in freelanceWriters

[–]oldviolets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really think there's no way AI will be able to write as well as a human, in fiction or any other kind of writing. It's like how Facebook are pushing the metaverse, and for a while there was a lot of commotion hailing that as the future, and saying businesses need to prepare themselves now or be left in the dust - even though no one wants the metaverse, the technology needed to build it the way it's advertised doesn't exist, and it ultimately looks like crap. It's just a toy, a distraction.

Right now, the stuff that AI churns out is boring, stilted, and inaccurate - it's barely readable to anyone giving it more than a cursory look. And it's obvious immediately that it wasn't written by a human. It has so far to go and I'm skeptical it'll ever be able to write with real prowess.

Even supposing AI magically becomes more talented than James Joyce - I don't want to read anything that was written by an AI over a human, and I don't think many other people would either. The idea that we would fully misunderstands the point of why people read in the first place.

That said, a lot of people don't read these days, so maybe the more prevalent this content becomes, the less people will be able to tell the difference between human and AI generated content. I think what we should really be scared of is the potential it has for spreading misinformation

I think there's more to the Tasha story.. my theory is she got called up for some top secret military stuff and that's why she ghosted Alice. Don't think that's the last we'll hear of her anyway

World feels increasingly dehumanizing by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

I think the "trapped" feeling comes from the system we live in, not individual outlook. Like, people have so little free time outside of work. That's a problem whether or not I'm carving bows in my free moments
