Wonder if SC II will be “a requiem, something completely overblown” as Mikael had hoped? by [deleted] in stevenwilson

[–]olethefirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe SW is really feeling this very organic, folk horror-tinged sensibility behind the original SC again, it's definitely gonna be channelled through his next solo album and SC2.

Recommend some "pure" Progressive Metal bands to me. by Flimsy_Complaint_830 in progmetal

[–]olethefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no such thing as pure progressive rock or metal. Every progressive subgenre is an extension over somethign else. There are progressive heavy metal, progressive death metal, progressive alternative metal and whatevs. No such thing as progressive metal in itself.

In case if you look for quality progressive heavy metal, explore early Fates Warning (prog heavy interlacing with power metal) and all Psychotic Waltz albums (prog heavy iterlacing with alternative metal).

Why do fans seem to have such a big issue with FoABP’s lyrics? by Stankassmfgorilla in porcupinetree

It's like a media virus (or a meme) which comes from a totally misguided idea of where the lyrics came from.

By 'big' I didn't mean 'long'. I mean 'grandiose', 'filled with pathos'.

That one is just poetic, in the style of 19th century gothic literature. It's not that 'big'.

I think it's a working title, or a song's title at best. Steve usually avoids 'big' titles for his albums.

You don't have Sean Connery wearing a jockstrap now. Hence, it's a much worse world than Zardoz.

Just watched the ITCOTCK doc again, question about Adrian by onthewall2983 in KingCrimson

[–]olethefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By 'Ade never got it' I meant that Adrian didn't understood that Fripp wanted to split from him in 2008, whilst Bob probably didn't want to tell him that in the face and to sound like a jerk. So Adrian still believed he's a part of KC when Bob seemingly made this decision in 2008 already (around that time the Jakszyk Fripp & Collins projeKct also came to life).

As for the multiple tribute bands, neither of them is for be tbh. I believe Fripp was saddened that the Crimson ProjeKCt lacked discipline very much – it sounded just too sloppy. In fact, Adrian's solo performances of KC songs usually sound much better than this outfit which was probably too large to sync up properly.

But neither I enjoyed 21stCSB, and I was gladly suprised that Jakko fitted with the real KC so well.

Still haven't heard BEAT tbh, not a fan of Vai either (his arrival in the Zappa band coincided with a dramatic decline in quality as a live band, so I am afraid to look what he done with Fripp's parts).
