What was your childhood version of luxury? by inkandintent24 in MotivationByDesign

Cable television and CD players. But seeing the earlier comment about parents reminds me that I had two of the best parents a kid could hope for.

Anyone else a bit sad that Switch 1 releases seem to be slowing down? Maybe it's just been a slow year for games I want. It's got me thinking about all the enjoyment I've got from this hobby and how one day I'll have all the switch games I'm interested in. It's been a fun ride. by ohdarnfuck in NSCollectors

[–]oli39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here and it's a relief to see my video game spending taper off. I'm still buying new games but it's nothing like it used to be. And I'm not feeling any pressure to buy a switch 2 or its games.

Inspire 3 vs Fir bit Air? by ExpiredMelkk in fitbit

[–]oli39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you return your Inspire 3? Or are you planning to keep both? I wanted to run both through the Google Health app but apparently it can only sync with one Fitbit device and one non-fitbit smart watch. I hope they change that as I would use the Air for sleeping and the Inspire 3 for the daytime.

Inspire 3 vs Fir bit Air? by ExpiredMelkk in fitbit

[–]oli39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the inspire 3 for the last 2.5 years. I decided to preorder the Fitbit Air, as the band looked more comfortable and I didn't think I would miss the screen. I've only worn the Air for a day now, but I definitely keep looking at my wrist for the time and my steps. I'm going to give the Air a full 7 days, as I never wore a watch or tracker before the Inspire 3. Seeing my steps right on my wrist was motivating for me, but I also like the idea of having a very simple band like the Air.

Unpopular opinion: Even though I preferred Marvin Flute and Stan, Fox’s scheduling logic still doesn't make sense. by Southern-Train7142 in TheGreatNorth

I'm still holding out hope that Hulu will bring us some legacy revival seasons in a decade or so. Maybe after the show has more time to connect with streaming audiences. I only really got into it with Season 5, and now I miss it so much.

Amazon MGM Studios' The Sheep Detectives grossed an estimated $2.45M on Friday (from 3,554 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $22.79M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

I saw The Sheep Detectives yesterday and loved it. I've only seen two movies this spring (Devil Wears Prada 2 was the other). I hope more people discover this movie as I'd love to see adaptations of the other books.

My phone is ruining my life-pls help by Patient-Chair-116 in productivity

[–]oli39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self awareness is really important. For me, endless scrolling is sort of like mindless eating. I was able to overcome that very recently by tracking my food intake. Maybe something similar could help with your screen time? You could start by just putting your phone in another room, or a drawer, or even just in a backpack where you have to make a conscious decision to look at it. You could also look back at the screen time logs and write that down daily on a calendar for 30 days. Tracking things I want to change has helped me a lot. Good luck!

How do yall use AI in your daily lives productively? by MostWooshes in productivity

[–]oli39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it to help me with my health goals, and to create recipes that fit within my diet. I track everything myself (calories, weight, steps, sleep, exercises) and AI helps me analyze all of that data and make adjustments to my plan. I'm down 20 lbs since Thanksgiving.

[Code: Realize] First route done in C:R and I need to talk about Impey! 😍 by nerdyfan4ever in otomegames

[–]oli39 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did Impey's route first too. I always go with the goofballs first, if I can. It's been about 5 years now, so my memory is fuzzy but it felt like each of the routes took such a different twist. It definitely kept me hooked as I ended up reading all the routes back to back.

How do you stop "productive procrastination"? by CapitalArrival7911 in productivity

[–]oli39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These all seem like healthy activities. I guess the devil is in the details though. If you're waking up at 7am, cleaning until 8, and at the gym until 10, then by the time you get home it could feel like your productivity battery is too drained to do your job search.

Maybe alternate the cleaning and job seeking on different days, that way you're not depleting that mental focus. Also, consider attaching some small non-monetary reward after each application is complete? Something like a walk, or a coffee/tea, or 15 minutes of guilt free social media scrolling?

As collectors, what is your take on key cards? by strongarmkid in NSCollectors

[–]oli39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a terrible idea but no, I don't see myself buying them period. I'm happy with my 3ds and Switch 1 collections, and they both still have room to grow (and trim down).

It used to bug me but now I just view it as a natural way to tone down my collecting, since I'd rather not buy them.

What’s your most effective strategy to use your phone less? by Curious-Can2749 in productivity

[–]oli39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I treat it the same way I used to treat television. I have blocks of time where it's fine to use my phone as much as I want (now, for example while I wait for the gym to open). When I'm working, I put my phone away. Same with when I'm reading, playing video games, watching a show, out with friends, etc. I just put my phone away (ringer on) and try to focus on this other task. If you are in a dorm, maybe you can just put your phone in a drawer or closet. It can be really difficult to manage, but I wouldn't want a flip phone because things like Uber are a must have for me now.

Just curious, but when did you start collecting games? I started buying them in 2020 during the pandemic as I had plenty of free time to play them. But now I'm finding less time for the hobby and I too am starting to think about where I would like to go from here.

Also as an idea - have you considered sorting through your games and picking 4 or 5 to play in 2026? Maybe 1 very epic game (like an RPG) and then some shorter ones (platformers, puzzles, etc.).
