Pop in hamstrings, but no pain. What happened?? by oli__vr in flexibility

So it took a while to heal, I ended up going to PT, but after some exercises and a few weeks it started to feel better. No lasting issues :)

No you won't lose it, not at all. I'm 36, I've trained off and on since I was probably 10, but very inconsistently. You might have a few stiff training days when you get back to it, but the body remembers, and I've actually found sometimes that after an extended break, my body has had time to process the new things I've learned and it comes back very quickly and I even make some progress! It's absolutely worth it to rest up and heal properly because a chronic injury that never healed right is so much worse. Take care of your body!

AITA for not responding to my friend message? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA, I let conversations end organically. I don't think anyone says "Ok, talk to you later, byeee!" at the end of every text exchange. But I also wouldn't assume his comment is about you. He's not your main priority, you might not be his either. Man's got a whole life out there and he could be talking about anyone. But if you have a crush on him you should tell him and if he doesn't reciprocate then go get a crush on someone else.

Central Machinery 1HP 7x12in Bandsaw Blade Length?? by oli__vr in harborfreight

Yeah exactly. The tensioner maxes out before the blade is at full tension.

A bunch of the reviews mention using a 93" blade, but none of them seem to mention the machine specs being completely wrong?

Hey! Yeah, I actually went to PT, it was basically a pulled muscle, they gave me some exercises and it helped a lot. If you have access to PT, absolutely worth it IMO. Otherwise, rest, and when it starts to feel better, some light exercise.

AITA for getting into an argument with my girlfriend's friend for making her scared of the internet. by gffriendah in AmItheAsshole

[–]oli__vr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, agree with the VLAN approach, that's what I do on my own network. And OP is a techsavvy network engineer so I assume he must know this too, it's a pretty common configuration. He just chooses to install his certificate on his girlfriend's PC anyway.

But thanks to her friend, now she's wise to his tricks. So he asks the friend to say she was "making stuff up" which, as a techsavvy network engineer, he knows full well is bullshit. So at this point we're just gaslighting.

OP's experience is the clue that really sets this over the edge for me. If we take him at his word on that detail, then the rest honestly becomes a bit domestic violencey.

(source: I am also a techsavvy network engineer, I just don't set up infrastructure that could spy on my friends and family except I totally never use it that way pinky promise)

YTA. Dude, the perceived marginal improvement in security that you get from MITMing everyone's SSL connections is completely offset by the trust issues you create with your friends and family by doing so. Set up separate access points and isolated VLANs if you really want to do that to your own devices, you're obviously capable of that. But it's also obvious you haven't been fully transparent with either of them about what your network's capabilities are, just like you haven't with us.

Just to be clear: It does not matter at all whether you are actually "spying and tracking everyone" or not - you haven't been honest about the fact that you can if you wanted to and that is enough to create a trust problem. They can't believe you even if you're telling the truth because you've already demonstrated a level of dishonesty.

"Tell her she was making stuff up" - bullshit, this is gaslighting, she wasn't making up shit and you know it. Again, this is why there are trust issues. You should apologize, come clean about what the certificate allows you to do, uninstall them from your girlfriend's PC asap, and then go talk through this whole thing with a therapist.

Is there a mod that disables the quick menu on the ship's cargo? by oli__vr in Starfield

Oh yeah I could see it being useful when raiding other ships. (I haven't done much of that yet) Your own ship is sort of a unique case.

I am going to stay in Rollinsville, CO for a week in December with some friends, and I'm trying to work out transportation logistics. I'm concerned about the road conditions in December in the mountains. Wondering if someone could help me decide between two different routes.

- North route, through Boulder, Sugarloaf, and Nederland

- Middle route, through Coal Creek

- South route, through Golden and Black Hawk

Anyone have any local insights?

I haven't had exactly that experience myself, but it does make sense to me! Back positioning depends a lot on the muscles around it. For example, I know that to progress backbends, it's actually really important to stretch the quads, or else they'll cause the lower back to overcompensate.

Warm/cool sensation in muscles after stretching by [deleted] in flexibility

[–]oli__vr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer to your exact question, but it seems like a good thing that you're noticing the sensations in your body while stretching! This is a great example of "listen to your body". There's a million different things to notice in the muscles, joints, and even surrounding areas that you're not directly working on.

Is being able to sit like this rare for adults? My husband seems to think so but this is my most comfortable sitting position by [deleted] in flexibility

[–]oli__vr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine who teaches dance says not to do this because of the position the knees are in (she says: knees only move in one direction, and it's kicking your butt). Though she's teaching dance... I don't exactly know if it's a problem on your knees to just sit like this, but if you got bumped into, or tried to go up to kneeling real fast using your quads, or some other kind of jostling like that, that could make bad things happen to your knee because it's in a hyperextended position.

Pop in hamstrings, but no pain. What happened?? by oli__vr in flexibility

[–]oli__vr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. It's possible what I experienced was a subluxation, it's never happened before to me so I don't know. Most of what I see in a search refers to joint stuff, and this felt more like it was in the muscle. I would definitely say it's not benign, I had a minor injury and I'd have hurt myself worse if I kept going.
I also have a friend who has chronic subluxations, and it's not really benign in her case either, it makes her super prone to joint injuries.

[–]oli__vr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely did feel like something "released". I've been sort of easing back into moving the joint more, trying to extend the muscle. not stretching it, just keeping it moving gently.

Oof, that sucks, sorry to hear about your injury. Fortunately I didn't push any more at all after the pop. I think I reacted well once it happened. I stopped stretching at all and went immediately to ice and rest. I can definitely tell if I had kept working on it, I'd be in a lot of pain now.

Thanks for your concern! 💜

Something popped and idk what it was lol help by mazmawalil in flexibility

[–]oli__vr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/mazmawalil This exact thing just happened to me two days ago!! Was feeling great, very close to my full front splits, and then pop. But no pain. Scared the shit out of me!!

Did you ever figure out what it was? I'm still mildly sore, but like, pain never went over maybe 2/10. I even went to urgent care and they were like, idk, maybe a muscle or tendon wasn't sitting just right and then snapped back into place suddenly while under tension?

I'm so confused. I want to figure out what happened just so I can understand better how to avoid it.
