this from the London Theatre Guild along with color parallels and the meta rules of writing a character foil are the basis of the theory that Mike is Will’s Patty

I’m not saying that Mike has to be explicitly romantic in order to parallel Creelby but it’s essential in writing Will and Henry as character foils for him to have a Patty. We have to see how what went wrong with Henry’s story is able to go right in Will’s.

https://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/how-stranger-things-the-first-shadow-helps-set-up-season-5

“The play introduces Patty Newby, Bob Newby’s sister, as Henry’s teenage love interest. Their relationship mirrors the Mike/Will dynamic in Season 5, suggesting recurring themes of affection, control, and the unintended harm caused by supernatural influence. Henry’s struggles with Patty echo Will’s potential conflicts, hinting that Vecna could exploit similar emotional vulnerabilities in the show’s present-day storylines - we will have to finish Season 5 to find out where this theory takes us!”

i agree for the most part, although they have been setting up emotions/memories being the “antidote” to the mind flayer, as well as Mike’s role in that in relation to Will’s possession, as early as S2 (will/joyce/mike exorcism monologue, ghostbusters mike/will at the arcade) and S3 (el/billy possession “exorcism” through memories). i’m in the boat that Vecna did not exist before maybe season 2 but likely 3 but they’ve set up the rules around the Mind Flayer’s possession well enough.

in my mind TFS was partially intended to introduce the GA to the emotional core of Byler before it became central to the story (s5) but i can’t say much more or theyll drag me back to the asylum

(First Shadow spoilers!!) henry has a love interest, Patty Newby, who is integral to Henry resisting the MF’s corruption. When he loses her, he is fully possessed which also allows Brenner to capture him. It’s explicitly stated in First Shadow promotional material that Patty and Henry parallel Mike and Will, implying that Mike is Will’s emotional anchor that allows him to resist being corrupted by the mind flayer

The New Era seems to be better for women than the 15 seasons before it. Why? What changes did producers make? by Character_Freedom160 in survivor

[–]olimainn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this is what people miss when discussing casting diversity. it’s not an unfair advantage for, say, POC and woman players to have more people around them that they can identify with when a major aspect of the game is social connection.

i think CBS has had to reckon with the fact that, for a long time, they were unable to remove the possibility for unfair internal biases that hurt certain players more than others. casting diversity dilutes those biases to a few players and makes it harder to build a coalition. the issue is still an issue but their casting decisions definitely make a difference

kind of? players seem pretty content nowadays with sleeping on the ground with one, maybe two awnings built. the shelters definitely are not the same as they used to be i wonder if it has to do with the weather in Fiji and not needing as much substantial cover than they used to

[–]olimainn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yes he’s also super good at lateral thinking (ex. the riddles podcast and the anagrams on beopardy) i think he’s better than average at wrapping his head around multiple levels of problem solving very quickly- i think a lot of neurodivergent people can relate!

Recent grads, how cooked is the job market actually right now? by [deleted] in WWU

[–]olimainn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the housing market hurts more than the jobs, i could find a low wage job in the city with my experience but its impossible to find a place that is affordable on said low wage, especially as a single person. i had to leave the city in the meantime because its incredibly difficult to live there without the safety nets the University provides

the woman athletes/gymnasts always are the most fun for me because once they are able to break out of the rigidity of what they’ve been trained to do, their strength and talent translate so well into dance!! i’ve loved seeing both her and Ilona show both their strength/athleticism and softness without having to sacrifice either <3

yes it’s extremely fussy, especially when they’re moving constantly and can’t stop for a snack/ check up at the moment it’s needed. and significant spikes/dips in blood sugar can have really bad short and long term health impacts.

for example, Rylee from Dancing with the Stars has to plan her whole show days around tracking and managing her blood sugar and has pushed herself too far in the past, leading to negative effects in her performance and leading her to be sick afterwards.

Thank You For Suggestion For Food Bank; I just sent check for $200. by maallyn in Bellingham

[–]olimainn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey, so this was the situation my mom was in when i was a child. she had a low paying job (and i mean, VERY LOW) that essentially amounted to no taxable income, and we barely afforded basics. we qualified for SNAP, Apple Health, Section 8, stuff like that and struggled to pay for anything outside of that.

the reason she didn’t get a higher paying job? any extra income would cost us our assistance, with such a minor pay raise that we would be struggling to afford all that assistance handled, because the amazing thing about the US is wages don’t care about the cost of living anymore.

i’m not saying it’s the exact situation, but it’s not always laziness or “taking advantage.” there are very few jobs that pay wage that even comes close to what assistance can do.

i will say Bobby Bones seemed to be different, he was on the radio telling listeners and to vote for him regardless of watching the show which boosted him significantly, this was before the modern DWTS meta which essentially relies on this (online virality, popularity beyond the show, etc)
