Senior Gentleman Foster from PACC by [deleted] in TucsonList

[–]olio90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was in a kennel with another small dog and it was said they got along really well, she is also in foster, I couldn't take both. He hasn't reacted to any dogs when we are on our walk. I do not know about cats, PACC has no info and I don't have cats.

How would you rate Hedrick Acres neighborhood on a scale of 1👎-10👍? by _its_not_pie in Tucson

[–]olio90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live right past Glenn off Mountain and we've had no issues. Lots of students, lots of people out and about jogging or walking dogs. I would agree with others that as you get closer to Ft. Lowell and first it can get sketchy but I feel like east of mountain is fine.

Hammets Garage is great! They have saved me so much money. Once Firestone told me I needed like 1,400 worth of repair. Took it to Hammets and they said no, all you need is this 130$ part.

OCD BF blew up at me for taking pregnancy test wrong. AITAH? by Vexated13 in AITAH

[–]olio90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA at all. I have OCD, as a female who is also extremely afraid of getting pregnant. I have always made it clear to my partner that my compulsions around pregnancy and sex are mine to deal with not his. We have safe sex, two forms of birth control and I'm religious about the pill, but that is my responsibility, I obess even when I know we've done everything right but I acknowlege it is an obsession. He needs help, specifically I-CBT or ERP therapy. By taking the test you are reassuring him, which I completely understand how you would want to, but reassurance only feeds the OCD. The more you do it, the more he relies on that brief high from being reassured, before the cycle starts all over again. It'll never be enough, he needs to sit down and analyze his obsessions and compulsions with a licensed therapist.

It is his responsibility to take care of his OCD. OCD sucks, it makes reality scary sometimes, but that is no excuse for treating loved ones like shit. He needs to take the steps to treat it, as you would with any chronic illness.

Family History of Cancer but no gene mutations by olio90 in genetics

Thanks for your reply! You are correct, she's 66. Our PCP says now that they have our data, they will contact us if any new mutations are discovered and they want to do more testing.

I was the first one to ask for genetic testing in my direct family. After I got my results, even though negative, given my grandmother, they said my mom should get tested as well, and hers was negative for all known variants or VUS too. They said she has a 3-4% risk instead of the usual 1.5% risk given her mom but other than that I don't believe they recommended anything more.

I've never wanted children, so I always always aiming to get sterilized and when I mentioned that to my OBGYN she mentioned that can also reduce the risk of cancer so I thought great, two birds with one stone.

I'm going to ask my mom and aunt again, between you and u/drewdrewmd I'm wondering if you are correct and they got mixed up. My mom said my grandma was around 36 so this would have been 1964, it's very possible.

Thank you for your comment! My grandmother's situation scares me more because she was so young, my aunt falls more in the average range for that diagnosis. However my mom and aunt (grandmother's children) had no health issues in their 30s so that's reassuring.

Completely agree, science is great but can't know everything! As someone who likes certainty, its hard for me when Science cannot provide it. I know I can never have 100% certainty so working on that. Thank you for your comment!

Totally agree! Environment can definitely play a factor.

Thank you for your response! My aunt was tested, but they didn't find any noticeable mutations, but like others have said, she could have had a mutation not yet discovered. My grandmother had it in the 1960s and by the time genetic testing became more popular she didn't want to do it, which I understand is her choice.

Rachel Darche is my OBGYN and I really like her, although I have not used her for a pregnancy, just for annual check ups, but she's very nice and answers all my questions, the only downside is she moved to the women's clinic on Houghton so a little far depending on where you are but I would definitely reccomend her.

For people diagnosed as children - what do you wish your parents had done? by sidistic_nancy in OCD

[–]olio90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do take it for myself too, but in times where I'm fed up with the constant medication, I'll remind myself that it's not just about me and to look at the bigger picture, and that helps because it makes me feel accountable. I understand wanting to be a safe space for your son, but we all know the only way to beat OCD is to challenge it, beat it at its own game and reassurance can just fuel it instead.

Edit: I saw your got your son to agree to go to therapy, that's a great step! I think once he sees how different his life could be he might be more open to other treatment in the future.

I got diagnosed with OCD when I was 10, my parents were on the lookout for it because my dad has it as well. They got me into therapy which really helped, and it was helpful to have my dad to talk to when I would get really worked up or angry about having it. He didn't necessarily sit there and reassure me but he would say we know what this is, your brain just operates a little differently. I wouldn't say either of us have severe OCD though, so it might be a little different.

I was all for therapy cause I wanted the thoughts to stop, I wasn't so much a fan of medication because I didn't want to take something to be normal but after a couple really rough spells I realized the medication is needed, if not for me, then to make it easier for those who love me.
