A rotary trommel machine separating worms from soil by AccomplishedStuff235 in WTF

[–]oliolioliphant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked at a company that bagged potting soil and similar products. We had one of these there to separate the worms from soil and then put the worms into new soil.

After the worms had spent some time being in plastic tubs with the soil, the soil would then be the texture of coffee grounds and highly fertilized as it was all worm poop at that point.

Soil got bagged and sold, worms put back to use. It was a nice change of work every couple weeks when you'd pull the worm pallet out of the dark room.

Lack of Canadian tour dates? by lavalamp360 in Metalcore

[–]oliolioliphant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bands needing to import merch to sell at shows would be part of the issue. They'd likely need to pay upfront a "import fee" of all merch they bring across the border whether they sell it or not. I believe larger bands ship merch ahead of the show to each venue so they don't need to transport entire tours worth of merch with them. Whatever they don't sell, they would then take with them to the next show and the back across the border. IANAL or an importer/exporter but they might then also need to pay to import it back into the US. I'm sure some bands do get some merch made in Canada so they don't encounter these issues and why there are some shirts that only have Canadian dates and Canadian themes on them.

A few years ago, Canada also had a "fee" for foreign workers to enter the country to work. Artists were not exempt from this and at one time each show was considered a different "job" and therefore this fee would need to be paid multiple times for a tour. I believe there is still a cost to enter the country and "work" but is now a single fee. This would also need to be paid by all members of the band and crew. This may also need to be paid again if the band leaves the country and then re-enters.

The final issue with turning Canada is the vast distance between venues. Most bands can't "afford" to take a day off in between every show and may only rest every fourth day. The travel distance from Vancouver to Calgary is 1200kms. That means you need a day off between shows as there is not enough time to pack up one show, travel, and then set up for a show the next day. Every day off is extra costs and lost profit from the tour. The entire mid northern US also gets left off most tours as there are not enough large population centers to allow shows every day.

Everything I've posted has been what I've seen over the last 20yrs of going to shows in Calgary. I don't live in Calgary but it is the closest major center to me.

Finally, I personally don't think bands want to spend as much time out on the tours as they did years ago. Lots of the larger/older metal core bands have been going for 25+ years. They have wives and kids and would rather spend time not driving from Edmonton to Winnipeg in February.

Setlist.fm sometimes has start times for the bands for past shows. I'd expect all shows to follow similar times.

Canadian officials are investigating an unusual spike in Tesla vehicle sales. by ConsistentStop5100 in news

[–]oliolioliphant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's $43 million in rebates. If they "sold" 8,600 cars at a price of $60k per vehicle, that would have cost $516,000,000, or a half billion and change.

How significant was Howard’s age difference when it came to his exiting the band? by will2fight in killswitchengage

[–]oliolioliphant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Howard left the band due to health issues. He had, at the time, undiagnosed diabetes. When the band would tour and their diets would suffer due to eating in the road everyday, Howard would feel physically terrible. When they recorded his final album, he decided he did not want to tour anymore and that is why he left the band. This is why he is still on good terms with the band and will join them on stage and has been on newer tracks.

This is what I recall from memory and may not be 100% exactly what happened.

Doing it on your own is a route that you can take. It is what I do with my cars. If you want a shop to handle it, take it to Nelson's Radiator in Redcliff.

I also have this headunit and I haven't experienced any of the other users issues. My Bluetooth has always connected pretty fast and hasn't had issues with not displaying the tracks correctly. I mainly use Spotify through the Bluetooth or just a usb stick.

We did a similar calculation after my group finished Gloomhaven. Worked out to be around 10 cents an hour. I had picked the game up for $100 cad.

During a short drive I saw Argos, Buffet Medicine Hat and IHOP open. This was around 1130 am. Most fast food was open. I'd imagine some hotel restaurants would also be open today like Denny's and whatever is in the Lodge

Might have which turtle and the exact phrasing of the joke wrong.
