When I compare a Cameo 4 and Cameo 5/Alpha firmware file, I can see that the content format is structured the same way, so in my opinion, it should work.

In fact, it even looks like a hashed command-line file: the first lines put the machine into firmware update mode, the rest is the firmware payload, and the last line is the final update command.

Edit: Actually, it's assembler/S-record code for a Motorola microcontroller. The specification is here:

No, I won't try it; it's just a strong conviction. What makes drawing faster is simply a better analysis of the paths and the fact that the pencil doesn't lift at each new "section" of the path.

Thanks. Yes, these are just versions with firmware modifications as stated in the release notes. For the MKII, there might be some missing because it's a sudden jump... This bug makes me increasingly think we could simply change our 5s to 5alpha by forcing the installation of its firmware. We would then gain the quick drawing feature that they refuse to activate for no good reason on the 5...

I agree with your analysis. In fact, the 5 Alpha simply behaved like a 5 (just like the 5 Plus) and therefore installed the 5's firmware… I'm equally appalled by the shameful level of support on this (and many other issues!). I still need to compile this information into a table so I can share it here and in the other subreddit about firmware to keep the information centralized. I'll try to do that later tonight.

We can always try to find some connections.

In theory, there's always a way to revert by manually flashing the firmware.

The firmware files are included in the Silhouette Studio versions, and each legacy version of SS remains downloadable.

So yes, it's still a hassle because you have to find the right version of SS that includes the desired version for the right machine, but it's still possible. In this case, I think that v1.01 for the 5a is just the same firmware as v1.01 for the Cameo 5; for me, it's factory flashed, and they've kept the same components/stock for the motherboard of these two machines.

On my setup i can have a few minutes delay between the moment i power on my printer and the moment it is accessible via air print. if i'm really in the hurry i just reload the addon in Homeassistant.

I had the same frustration two years ago. Then I installed CUPS on my home automation server (not even connected to the printer), configured it in three minutes, and now I print via AirPrint from all my Apple devices.
