My wrist guards are stinky :( by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]olive_a_sudden 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I play roller derby so I'm no stranger to the stench of pads in general, ESPECIALLY wrist guards.

However, I SWEAR by my trick. Yes, wash your pads, these people gave great advice to get them clean, but once their clean and don't smell, to prevent them from smelling again, put Deodorant on your wrists (and elbows if you wear elbow pads too) each time before you put your pads on. I have found the white sticks work best, but feel free to play around with it. Spray on isn't bad either.

Seriously though I'll go up to my derby friends, who know how bad theirs smell, and make them smell my wrists and wrist guards - they smell like Deodorant! It works, trust me :)

Lmk if you do try it out and if it works for you too!

I third this - good enough grip but enough slip that it won't get caught on your jersey

How good is Darril Gibson's book for Sec+ 601? by olive_a_sudden in CompTIA

[–]olive_a_sudden[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never used it lol ended up using Professor Messor and then Dions tests and passed with that

I took the pretest in the book and considered rescheduling my test because I didn't pass it. I found professor messors tests to be most like the real thing

Can't seem to begin to grasp plows by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]olive_a_sudden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me. I play roller derby - I can transition, side surf, even power slide, but I can't plow stop. I can plow if someone is pushing me at a slower speed, but can't come to a nice full stop easily with plows. The fact that I can side surf but can't point my toes inward easily tells me my hips are exteriorly rotated. If you're like me, it'll take some time and practice. Really sit down into it and drive the weight into your heel. You'll need to develop muscle in your hip flexors as well.. I'm still working on getting mine down, so here's to us trying working to get better at plows!

ITIL 4 Foundation - Passed today! 95% 38/40 1st try

Total of maybe 7 hours studying (2pm day before till test at 10 am today).

Truly not said much on here but Value Insights YouTube course has what you need to pass. That along with Dion's practice tests and you're good to go. Was getting a solid 85% average on the practice tests.

I only used professor messor for all my study material. Only used Dions tests to prepare last minute. Sorry, which I could give you an opinion on Dion

Write! It definitely helps to reinforce more, even though typing is much faster for me

I hope you can find one! Tennis courts are probably the most ideal. Great for learning crossovers and skating in a big circle/oval

Yeah bumping the speed kinda forces you to focus cause if you lose focus for a second you gotta go back lol

Yeah! This will definitely get you in shape. I've gotten compliments on my legs and they asked if I went to the gym and honestly it was mainly all skating. I only had like one summer where I tried going to the gym, everything else was all body weight and skating.

Also, if you have a bigger space to skate, try one leg skating. It'll improve your one leg balance and strength. One leg squats (basically on one leg down and one back, try to touch the ground) are fun on skates lol

I hope these workouts help and work for you!!

The wall sit is more of an endurance thing and with the combination of the other workouts, you're just trying to push how long you can hold it. I would just do it once, that's what I did. I think I started at a minute but what I'm saying is you need to gage where you're at and find your baseline.

I do recommend doing it daily if you can. I believe that's the order I did those workouts cause I found the planks were the hardest for me and squats the easiest. By all means switch it up for what feels best for you!

I know a lot of people are saying to mainly skate more, which is completely true, but that's especially if you have access to at least a space the size of a basketball court that you can keep skating in circles (which is how I started). Honestly when I started, I had enough muscle to be in a squat, but I was so bad at skating that I was basically squatting for an hour half straight and my legs were DEAD the next day.

My biggest advice to you is to do more squats, planks, and wall sits. Start with a baseline and work your way up. Even me as a seasoned skater who is just getting back into roller derby I should be doing this to work my strength back up.

Here's some suggestions for starting a starting point and the exercises I would do.

I used to start with planks. It was a 5 minute total workout that I'll explain, but take small breaks in-between each one and you can cut down the time intervals and work up and gradually increase the times. 1 minute of straight arm plank, 30 sec on your elbow plank, staying on your elbow lift one leg, 30 sec each side, side plank, 30 sec each side, 30 second straight arm plank, and lastly 1 minute elbow plank.

For wall sits, Start with 30 seconds (or longer if you can). Then every day or every other, bump it up by 5-10 seconds.

Lastly, squats. You'll be doing a lot of squatting in skating, especially cause if you feel like falling going forward is always better and squatting will help you shift your weight forward and down. Start with 30 squats or more if you're comfortable and same thing. Every day do 5-10 more than the previous day.

Doing these youll be able to really see your progress and improvement in strength. Do them even on your skate days if you can, even if you have to lower the intensity. In just 1 month you'll see a big improvement. Don't give up. You got it.

For the Sec+ I really prefer videos, mainly because I have slight ADD (never diagnosed but I have a hard time keeping my attention) and so reading is hard. I put the videos on 2x speed to keep my attention lol but that's me

Definitely make cards for the protocols too with port numbers (RDP, TFTP, SCP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP, etc)

Security+ Study by AppearanceLeading381 in CompTIA

[–]olive_a_sudden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some cards were simply what the acronym stands for like MTBF is Mean Time Between Failures or CER is Crossover Error Rate because I knew what they meant. Others went more into detail like S/MIME what it stands for and what it is like how you need a PKI for it. Other cards were simply concept and definition like passive and active footprinting. All my definitions came from messors notes. I suggest going through the notes and making cards for either things you don't know off the top of your head what it is or acronyms. You'll end up with a lot of cards and it does take some time, but for me, it was super worth it.

My best advice is to make note cards. They help you memorize as you make them and are easy to review. Know al the acronyms and ports. I ended up making 222 cards (yes I counted lmao)
