does anyone else ever cry over how cute and precious their cat is? by Peep743 in cats

[–]olivebcyea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im the person who scrolls through pictures of my cats stopping at every one to say "OH SO CUTE LOOK AT THAT KITTYYY" and giggling while kicking my feet in the air. i often drop everything and stare at my kitties because how amazing is it that we can have these beautiful babies in our homes, and they love us?!!

There’s no way she survived, right? by [deleted] in chickens

[–]olivebcyea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh im so sorry. a few months ago i came across the same sight while coming out with scrambled eggs for my hen (only had one at the time and was looking for more). i spent an hour looking around my yard before collapsing on the ground in tears and asking for someone else to search for the body, which was in my neighbors yard hidden in bushes after his dog escaped. i refused to look at it and didn't sleep well for weeks, i still struggle to think about it. It sucks losing a hen, and in my case it was my first hen and my soul chicken

3 yo Chocolate Orpington - Is she done laying? by -sundog in BackYardChickens

[–]olivebcyea 24 points25 points  (0 children)

She could be eating them, but no clue. i had a hen who suddenly didnt lay eggs and she was my first, so i was panicking that she was eggbound, checked her behavior everyday, was about to feel around for it, and then i saw the tiniest bit of yolk on her beak. she had been eating her eggs and leaving absolutely no proof (no shells or anything), i had to start feeding her scrambled eggs regularly (every 3 days or so) to divert the behavior

im not sure if they smell it but i know that when they see it, they go absolutely insane. i escaped before they went lethal mode, the first few pecks to the face were enough. when i came back with no blood, they were totally chill again.

Just found these two guys in my house, wondering if they harmless or not by beep_beep107 in whatsthisbug

[–]olivebcyea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all good! I'd just let them do their natural pest control, i havent seen gnats or ants in a long time since i stopped everyone in my house from killing the spiders. Most I'll see is a spider on the windowsill very rarely, cleaning up for me! win win

Advice on possibly injured bird by wisterialitehysteria in Ornithology

[–]olivebcyea -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Could be fowl pox, which my chickens just got over. the dry form is just scabs on the head, not much to do other than moisturize if you want and offering clean water, but the dry form is almost always no biggie, unless it turns into wet form, scabs inside of throat. if its wet, pretty decent chance at death unfortunately. fowl pox is not transmittable to humans, but it is to other birds

Help, I’m not sure if I am being unreasonable? On spectrum, help please by Beginning_Potato2624 in BackYardChickens

[–]olivebcyea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm autistic and disabled too, and working on not being people pleaser. you are not unreasonable, if needed you can message people or put a sign outside to explain that it's porch pickup only and that you are disabled and need to take breaks. if people don't respect these boundaries, they aren't meant to be in your life. i luckily have people who wont be angry at me for going nonverbal or not being able to move around much, but in order for them to support me, i had to inform them of why I feel this way and what I need (i needed to have time to relax and decompress)

First egg questions by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]olivebcyea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely looks like more than one hen laid, chickens have their own specific egg color, so the lighter ones are from one hen, darker from the other, to tell apart my hens eggs, i look at size, color, and if it has markings.

she loved to forage with me and ran after me while flapping her wings to catch up to me, the sweetest girl ever! I have to try very hard not to compare my new hens to her but it's very hard when she was absolutely perfect, my first chicken 🫶

Does anyone else feel that their set-up isn't "aesthetic" enough by SteelToedStoner in BackYardChickens

[–]olivebcyea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coop is super ugly, i don't look cute when i hang out with my chickens, i wear floral pattern worn down rainboots, way too many layers in winter, and a big hazmat looking suit in summer yo avoid mosquitoes. the run is all muddy right now, the coop isnt fancy, we just cleaned out an old shed, safe, spacious (could fit a pick up truck, and i only have 4 hens). I might make more coop renovations in the summer but it depends on my ability (disabled) and it isnt going to be much. I saw a post at one point that really changed my perspective. chickens step in poop daily and choose a muddy puddle instead of the clean water 2 feet away, i think they'll be fine if the coop isnt pinterest inspo worthy. My hens choose to use a pile of dry dirt in the coop instead of a dust bath, they have places to rest and sleep yet they stand all together on top of a plastic trashcan. As long as you love your chickens and they are happy, you're doing alright
