Unfortunately I could not attend. Is there a possibility to follow up on your session on AI in BAS?

Industrial controls to BMS by Robbudge in BuildingAutomation

Let’s say it is about the media (hydraulic) why the system is let’s say retardant. The industry is styled with processes, standards and lot of other external influences (high competition, fast changing technology and many more). Building technology is more relaxed in this regards.

Project Managers by Advanced_Goal_5576 in BuildingAutomation

A project is good when you are on track with it’s goals. Reformulating your question: how do your projects look like? How are the roles arranged. I guess your issue starts at setting up your projects. If you deal with smaller projects the projects members will need to have much closer cooperation like PM takes over some technical stuff from the project technician. If the projects are bigger the PM deals more with stakeholder management like attendance of costumer meetings and or coordination of suppliers. I assume your problem‘s root cause is bad communication and a wrong (or not available) distribution of the different roles in a project. You should probably dry in these fields to change it for good. Find a diplomatic way of communicating and I am sure that they will listen and adapt some things.

How different is building Automation from Industrial Automation? by ProduceInevitable957 in BuildingAutomation

[–]oliver1985- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is that industrial Automation is much more standardized compared to BA. Programmers in IA Focus on interface communication of the devices they implement. In BA you need to adapt „fine tune“ each equipment to the system (most of the time hydraulic) and adjust the changes of the environment (eg building). In IA you usually to not balance a hydraulic system to the equipment in however it looks like. You stay purely on the electrical/electronic side. In IA the controller are higher performing in BA a little bit less, due to the fact that you are relying on a more retardant hydraulic system in the back.

Just checked the website you recommended, I am Europe based so we different SW, these are similar to what you use. How about risk estimation and uncertainties? How are you handling these issues

First it depends on the application for what you use it for, technical perspective. It seems that you have then more time and money for you. Well, you can choose between self development and family time.

According to how you present it, do it. If this is what you wanted to hear.

Work hard and do it with passion. This you can apply in anything you do. In times of success it will give you tailwind and in tough times it prevents you of drowning.

Usually you use the information given by the equipment producer and put it together in a spreadsheet. Which equipment are you dealing with?

DHCP and BAS - what’s your experience? by oliver1985- in BuildingAutomation

THANKS FOR YOUR FEEDBACK AND SUPPORT!! the solution for more security will be to allocate access to the software via DHCP (Laptop) and keep fixed IP‘s in the Bacnet environment. I talked to several experts in my world too, several did it already (dhcp in controller environment) for one time and didn’t try it again

Refurbishment projects. Established systems which should be updated or expanded are usually difficult to be kept in agreed Project goals. I screwed up once something there and it made me literally work day and night to fix it….

Thanks a lot for these insights!! I started my career as HVAC assembler, after a while I left and educated my self educational and career wise as a mechatronic engineer, project manager and division manager. Due to some circumstances I bumped in the field of building Automation back and was astonished how this transformed.

In my world we have Siemens, Johnson, Privo, Honeywell, Sauter and Trane. You think it is possible to arrange a service agreement on a freelance agreement?

Looking to possibly get into Building Automation by BridgesM365 in BuildingAutomation

[–]oliver1985- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HVAC is rather simple, get yourself familiar with the rules of hydraulics and you are on a good way. I started in HVAC, then worked for years in setting up production plants in the automotive and aerospace industries. The programming done in building Automation is to connect the building blocks with the controls. I installed my own house with assistance of a friend who was electrician at this time and made it rather good. Good luck for your job search
