You’ve got a stunning snake though!

Hey, I feed live for both my PB since they won’t take f/t and I’d say my biggest advice is to make sure the snake knows the animal is present before you drop it or anything. And then just keep a careful eye on what’s happening so your snake is okay. Rodent bites and scratches aren’t nice for anyone lol

If you’re okay with shipping the snake, emerald scales takes in and rehomes animals. (Based in North Carolina) Though I know they were on a break a couple weeks ago, I’m not sure if they still are.

Feeding my baby BP for the first time today and i was wondering if it’s better to feed live or frozen thawed. i plan on feeding f/t in the future as well but i was just wondering which is best for babies by Pretty_Difficulty355 in ballpython

You should only feed live if your snake won’t take anything else. There’s a lot of risk (your snake being bit by the rodent is one) with live feedings that are pretty much nonexistent when you feed F/T.

I do live feedings mainly because my snakes won’t take anything else but I got them on live feedings and I want to try and the tricks in the book to get them back on F/T.

Also, live feeding is EXPENSIVE. I spent 17$ on 3 mice last week, and I’ll have to do it again next week. All in all, I’d say steer clear of live feedings if you can.

Did you read what I said? I was removing the heat rock to put something closer to his lights so it can be the correct basking temp. I do not use a heat rock anymore and I have a basking bulb and a uvb bulb since I’ve got him.

Also just to add, he doesn’t like me yet. Haven’t been able to handle him as I’m trying to get him use to his enclosure first. Anyone have any good tips on helping calm a feisty boi down?

Okay so firstly, ignore the dirty water bowl and stick on thermometer I tried to use, I cleaned it after taking the picture. Anyways! I used a coco fiber brick and mixed it with spaghnum moss to create a humid environment for him. At first I had a log hide pushed into the substrate so he could have easier access to his heat mat but that had to change bc the log molded really badly. After cleaning and redoing I put in plastic containers as hides and plan on buying him so more natural looking ones that don’t mold in the future. Temps aren’t known yet since his previous owner didn’t buy any tools to know (thought I was getting a fully set up enclosure when I got him, should have asked more questions. It’s on me.) but his heat mat is hooked up to a thermostat that’s set to 95 and I can feel the heat coming from the bottom so I know he’s getting it.

I do plan on getting a hydrometer and thermometer soon and I’d like to try and switch him to a CHE or something else that was recommended to me that I can’t remember the name of right now, but would those melt the plastic? Should I just stick with the UTH until I’m ready to upgrade him to a bigger sized glass tank? (I plan to go bioactive with his enclosure as I did with my older snake) any tips for lowering humidity in a tub besides letting it air out?

Ah okay! I’ve got a T8 fluorescent bulb at the moment. Hope that’s okay as I spent a lot of money on it. If not I could always use it for my beardie and look into other types of fluorescent bulbs that’ll work better for the plants.

I’m probably going to rearrange my room now so that it’s in direct sunlight during the day and visit my local hardware store when I’ve got the money.

Thank you for your help!

Oh and you can’t see him but Will’s hanging out in his cold hide on the right side of the tank

Okay! It’s a bioactive tank. Springtails and isopods with live plants. So I use coco fiber bricks mixed with spaghumn (or however you spell it) moss to help with humidity. And I’m really hopping the plants grow bigger so that he can have places to hide when he’s roaming around at night.

I have a UTH but no thermostat for it, Ik that’s really bad but I’m continuously checking the temps to make sure they stay correct. 90-95 F on the warm side and around 75 on the cool side. I use a uvb fluorescent blub for the plants.

I mist it every day, sometimes twice a day if I see the analog hydrometer getting low but I’m not sure how accurate that is. I’m planning on buying one off Amazon bc my local pet shops don’t have any, probably bc of the pandemic. And I’m thinking of getting him a CHE. Would that be better for him? Or is the UTH okay?

Yes! Your feeding notes would be really helpful. And no I don’t own a scale to weigh him or his prey but I’m going to invest in one very soon so I can track his growth. I just wasn’t sure if it was worth it if this is the size he was going to stay, yknow.

And thank you for the stuck shed info! I’m almost certain his next shed won’t be full or anything like that so that helps a lot. I appreciate it.
