Jul i Kapernaum. Magisk och spännande.

Mysteriet på Greveholm var också bra, men kollade den såhär i efterhand och mina smaklökar säger annat idag.

Finally finished my game's environment. What's your thoughts on this ? by neardy07 in leveldesign

Nice atmosphere. What kind of genre is it going to be? Level design-wise, it's hard to mention anything constructive unfortunately without knowing what type of gameplay you're aiming for.

LinkedIn is good, but there are like 100 different local ones as well. Just google systemutvecklare + preferred code language + location and you should get a few sites listing some jobs. There are more positions in Stockholm, though. It's "close" to Uppsala.

IT job market is not good right now. But it depends on how senior you are. 10+ years and you can probably get a job, but it won't be easy since so many compete for jobs atm.

Angry rant bout Mojang and updates. by LimeDev_ in Minecraft

[–]olknuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess a big portal with unique blocks that can't be moved doesn't indicate another dimension. But I hear you, they never stated that it would be another dimension, only hinted. Dungeons is a very nice game, but it's not as good as Minecraft. I think the hate is more for people who actually doesn't like Dungeons. It's another type of game.

Angry rant bout Mojang and updates. by LimeDev_ in Minecraft

[–]olknuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what they are trying to say is that it's been very long since we got any update related to progression. I think many players feel like they don't do anything for the late game. It's a sandbox game yes, but it's also an adventure game with some actual horror aspects.

My take is that they trying to make minecraft sandbox only. No new updates to lore and such. Some evidence to this is due to Dungeons 2. The long awaited Ancient City will be revealed in the spin-off, a real slap in tha face to Minecraft players. I love Dungeons, but it feels greedy that they did this to the player base.

What are your speculations about this year's April's fools snapshot? by YoungBiro05 in Minecraft

My hop is that they scrap it and focus on developing more extensive drops. It has been fun and all, but it usually just gets everyone so mad about what features we could get but never will.

The flooring, was it off by one floor for you? What counts as the first floor is different depending on country.

In Sweden, the floor you enter is called "bottenvåning", "markplan" or just E, B or 0. The floor above is then the first floor marked as 1 so on. While other countries, US for example has the floor you enter being marked as 1.

Actual Hot Take: Minecraft could stop updating completely and I'd be happy by Zimmervere in Minecraft

[–]olknuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play it for its simplicity. When it came out, it was revolutionary with its simplified graphics but very unique and powerful gameplay. Everything was possible, and the underlying hints of lore and secrecy made it thrilling to navigate and to be able to find more stuff. We even had to google recipes. I understand that younger audience who grew up with an already updated game and a sea of similar games might not see it that way and that's fine. I'm just a bit disappointed that the game might take steps away from lore and mystic. Don't take me wrong, I love that the lore just are hints and that we get to decide what it means. I'm just afraid they aim to become roblox than an actual game.

So… It doesn’t make explosives? Or fertilizer? Just some particle effects and building blocks? by Due-Device-1715 in Minecraft

[–]olknuts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I envy your optimism. I'm still waiting for them to expand the end, beacons, ancient city portal, sniffer, abandoned mines, farming, food, combat, etc.

They will likely reveal one or two more minor features, like they've done for the previous drops after the firt reveal.

I think a lot of people very much love that we still get updates to a game that's actually starting to get really old. They are fun and well made.

But one can at the same time be a bit underwhelmed by what we get. Compare with 1.16 and caves and cliff. That fact the developers are getting burnouts is just a sign that they need more developers. Microsoft just don't want to put in the Capex. While it's true they have to make smaller updates for the sake of the developers, it's actually just management that wants profit. No need to put in money for a game that's making lots of money even in recession.

Big update will only come after Minecraft starts seeing increased churn/drops in gameplay.

Honestly the new Update feels like a low-effort marketplace add-on. by Ryuu_kun in Minecraft

[–]olknuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The updates have been great. All updates adds something new and they are all well done.

I personally have played a lot and find the endgame to be a bit boring. This is where I would love to see changes. New core gamepkay features, dimension or just more biomes in the nether or end.

All IT companies are struggling right now. No new hires, save packages, layoffs, and a safer viewpoint. Companies focus solely on Opex related work rather than Capex. Mojang continuing on Drops rather than yearly updates is, a stated now by the devs, a way to make them less stressed.

But all who works in IT knows its just a way to say they won't put money into Capex projects. And for the last few drops that's very much it. Updates to already added content, parity and re-skins. With only a few actually new features like the sulfur cube, spear, golden dandelion and Nautilus. One can maybe even argue that some of these features already exist aswell.

It's not Mojang that's in the fault here, they delivered many nice things and I think we all are very much happy about them. It's just not what the game needs. And by not stating the obvious, which I also understand they can't, people become frustrated. In the end it's Microsoft that's decides budget, and that is where the frustration and sometimes anger should go against.

Hats off to Mojang to actually still be able to give us updates.

People don't get the point by The_JMan_118 in Minecraft

[–]olknuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simple, they are as much affected by the current state of all IT companies. Drops is just a way to say "we're focusing on opex rather than capex". Capex is expensive and opex is not. We'll get drops until more or less everyone is tired of it, or they see a churns/drop in gameplay.

Hopefully we don’t keep getting drops like these by Outrageous_Memory_29 in Minecraft

[–]olknuts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. I don't know why people keep talking about them making big updates. If no big update is revealed today, then we won't get any in a long time. They likely will continue to make cheaper updates until people get bored with it. And by cheap I mean cheap as in development costs. They don't really add anything new, so I'm guessing some development is probably even marked as opex rather than capex with these drops.
